Is that whimsical little posting an early Chrimbo prezzie , Fes? laughing

Toonie is looking to run the legs off your pack and rack up such a score as will allow him to rest key players for the return leg.

On another aside: Saints-Glasgow set for 5:30 on the Sunday. Which is fecc all good for those of us who have to get up for work on the Monday. Why didn't I stay retired. furious

Edinburgh 18 - 6 Glasgow.

No doubt.

Love it!

Heard a rumour Dickinson isn't playing to give the powder puff Glasgow pack a chance and that by evening things out a bit it would be better for the spectacle Laugh

I'd say front row , backrow & 9 it's advantage Edinburgh, from 10-15 it's very much Glasgow. However the deciding factor in my opinion is the coaches. Toonie knows how to use his team, Solly has one plan, if it's not working then he's stumped.

Also if Scott was in Toonie's team I would have rated him higher than Horne but our backs are largely filler so Horne edges it as he might get some quality ball.

With all that said Edinburgh are going to strangle the life out the game, starving Glasgow of the ball and will win the first leg.

Well it's tornado time I'm the mid west and I suspect the same for the Luvvies Very Happy Cool Yahoo I just love how the lervies armchair support know all about rugby esp The Warriors Stand by for humiliation suckers. Edinburgh must be the most schieze, boring team in Pro 12 history. Ergo their crappy silent support is diminishing support who need The Weedge to come through to The Library to "Make Some Noise".

RDW, the Shizoid one puts our festive poo flinging to shame. Sadly we are bound by rules of semantics and logic, to which he is as a stranger in a strange land.

Mr Spoons,
Also if Scott was in Toonie's team I would have rated him higher than Horne

only if he could sort out his defensive frailties. No one gets in the Glasgow side if they're afraid of contact. Or kebabs.

Just watched last year's highlights when Edinburgh humiliated Glasgow and won the cup - I forgot it was Horne that threw the wild interception pass to Visser. Given he also lost us the game against Italy he really didn't have a good few months at that stadium!

A word of warning for our western brethren - your Neanderthal cousins (AKA Rangers fans) are heading to Tyncastle for a 2pm kick off tomorrow so I can see the trains and roads being pretty busy.

There'll probably be more rugby fans though with 8000 supposedly coming through - you can teach them how to behave. They are in a civilised city after all!

Just as a wee correction RDW it's Celtic fans who are coming through.  Rangers have no business being at Tynecastle.

The police are apparently tightening security at both grounds (why murrayfield i have no idea)

From Edinburgh Police:

Edinburgh Police wrote:TRAVEL AND SAFETY ADVICE AHEAD OF EDINBURGH SPORTS MATCHES THIS WEEKEND
We are offering travel and safety advice to sports fans ahead of this weekend's football and rugby matches.
On Sunday 27th December Heart of Midlothian FC will play Celtic FC at Tynecastle Stadium in a 2pm kick-off. Edinburgh Rugby will then begin their match with Glasgow Warriors at 3.05pm at Murrayfield Stadium.
It is anticipated the SPFL game will be a sell-out, with several thousand also expected to attend the rugby.

With that in mind, officers in the Capital are urging spectators to plan their journeys in advance and leave plenty of time to get to the stadium they are travelling to.
The West of the city will experience significant traffic congestion before and after these matches and police will be in attendance around both venues to assist with traffic management.

Officers will also be assisting stewarding staff to carry out searches of those entering Tynecastle and Murrayfield to ensure the safety of the public.
Specialist resources including specially trained sniffer dogs will be deployed to detect flares and other flammable materials.
Those found in possession of these items will be denied entry and may face further police action.
Chief Inspector Bob Paris, Silver Commander for these events said: "There's always an added buzz to sporting matches during the festive season and we will have considerable resources in place to ensure these games are memorable for all the right reasons.
"I would urge football and rugby fans alike to get to their respective stadium at an appropriate time and ensure they do not leave their vehicles parked anywhere that presents an obstruction or danger to other motorists.
"Many of you may be consuming alcohol over the coming days, however, if you intend to drive to one of the games then please ensure you are legally allowed to do so.
"Road Policing Officers will be monitoring the road network in and around Edinburgh and those caught driving under the influence will be arrested and face a criminal conviction and the loss of their licence. Please, don't risk it.
"As part of our commitment to keeping people safe we will be undertaking searches of spectators and items such as flares, glass bottles and alcohol are not allowed in stadiums
"Please enjoy supporting your club this weekend, but please make sure your actions do not put yourselves or others at risk."

Apologies - Celtic (although my Neanderthal comment still applies Smile )

I'd hope the sniffer dogs and flare searches will just be at Tyncastle - hearts have had real problems this season because people are bringing in flares and injuring their own fans.

Even with 8000 glaswegiams in the stadium I can't see Murrayfield being quite do wild!

Your comment wasn't any more Neanderthal than usual, RDW. Hug

Matchday and I am 400 miles away and MrsPip hasn't been to the sales yet. Doh Be afraid, be very afraid

I was remembering Scotland -Samoa in the World Cup at Murrayfield a few tournaments back: Gavin Hastings was outstanding that day taking the ball at first receiver and smashing into the Samoans' midfield defence, tying in their big tacklers and allowing quick ball to bring the wide men into play. I think we'll see something very similar with BigT running at the Luvvies back row from set piece possession. Hardie is an outstanding 7 but if he spends most of the afternoon tackling BigT and being held down by Fozzie he wont really have the influence on the game he may otherwise have had. A lot of people have said that the Exfoliators have an advantage in the back row; if the Common People was any where near the standard of the other five players then I would agree but by the time he gets to the breakdown today the ball will be far, far away. So the League champions will have three players at every breakdown to the two Knitwear models.

Four and a half hours to kick off. But who's counting?

Jimbo old chap, you lose all credibility when you refer to Hardie and Du Preez as a couple of knitwear models! With Strauss at home being shielded from the marauding Edinburgh 8 those two are comfortably the toughest hombres on the pitch (with big bad Bresler a close 3rd). And I'm not talking about beating up a guy in a kebab shop tough!

That's something else you've not factored in to your calculations - on 30 minutes Wilson will no doubt pick a fight with a punter at the pitchside burger stand and Fusaro will leap into the crowd trying to start round 2 with Scott McLoed.

So that leaves Arthur Ashe v Du Preez and Hardie. There can only be one winner!

RDW, is it Rupert De Winter?, you obviously haven't seen the photie of Fozzie on the Glasgow Warrior Index today; he's gone for the unshaven look to highlight his "manliness". Unfortunately it's come in ginger. laughing

So either it's a tribute to Roddie Grant (who deserves the tributes and warmth being sent his way) OR Fozzie is about to start doing hilarious stop action animations on YouTube and Glove will need to get a real job.

Here's hoping for an entertaining game with all the Scotland players playing well, no injuries (especially in the Edinburgh pack) and, most of all.....

RDW, I hope you had a jolly Chrimbo and that today's game is actually an enjoyable spectacle. (How is the weather? I think wet and slippy underfoot will work against the Luvvies scrum) and that there are no injuries.

Mike Coman reminds me of Richard Beymer's character in The Longest Day - the paratrooper that lands in a tree and spends the entire film running around trying to find his unit. He ends up in the presence of a far superior actor in Richard Burton, delivering the line of the film: "You know, I haven't fired my gun all day? I keep hearing shooting, but every time I get there, everybody's gone!"

Coman will spend all game trying to get to the breakdown, as Glasgow play ToonieBall to the nth degree, shifting the point of attack so often that Coman just stands still, realising that the law of averages means that he will eventually be in the right place to steal ball. He'll end up sat in the stands as Nakarawa leans over his shoulder and offers him kindly advice on the art of the blindside while collecting his man of the match award for his work as a lock, centre, scrum-half, quarter-back and destroyer of dreams.

BTW Jim, 'Stranger in a Strange Land' is an absolute classic book. Do you fancy a seat at the Racing match? The Hagia Sophia and I are heading up for the weekend.

Do you have a ticket going spare to watch Dancer give yon Carter fella a masterclass in how it should be done?

"No, no Dan, against Ulster I stepped, dummy scissored, dummy passed , swerved then ran over their 10 before scoring."

p.s. Well done hanging in there with the Hagia Sophia, fantastic balconies and classic architecture.

p.p.s. Mrs Pip has just finished "The Song Of Achilles" which I thought was utterly fantastic. She said, "Reminded me of the Harry Potters" Doh Doh Doh

Also a genuine shame that ginger boab is busted. Respect that guy and hope he gets back to old form soon.

Tiger, welcome to the festivities. Someone will get a manshaming today. My money's on Mr Chinhook. fraser Brown has his eyes on the Scotland jersey and when he's not beating Common People to the breakdown I think he'll be showing the old codger how to do the hooking and throwing in stuff.

Scrappy first half, ref not overly concerned by reffing the breakdown.

Glasgow looking out of sorts but we know they can easily turn it on.

Edinburgh just need to stop pointlessly kicking the ball away. Especially turnover ball.

Ps can Glasgow stop the "Glasgowwwwwwwwww" shout. It's bloody dire

Glasgow have a try in them, but their forwards are dire, how you can lose three tightheads in one summer is beyond me. Maybe Roussow De Klerk scared them off too.

It was a good maul. However the Edinburgh no.4 was offside at the line out he was in front of the jumper

I think it is fair to say Edinburgh were by far the better team. Glasgow couldn't score in a house of ill repute. The one plus of the game was our scrum wasn't manshamed.

We weren't the better. We were just the less crap.

Special mention to the Edinburgh line out and the forwards who took 2 mins to get to every single line out. Probably the worst game I've seen in a long time

Congrats Edinburgh! John Hardie was as outstanding as we've come to expect, and Tom Brown was heroic. There's no other word for it.

As for Glasgow... Well it'll be a sign of the kind of team we are, whether we reach for excuses or knuckle down and solve our many problems. I think the boys have it in then to do what's needed, and Toonie is still the man to do it.

To continue the metaphor, if Mike Coman was like Richard Beymer (and I still think it's a fair comparison), then Hardie was like Robert Mitchum: "I don't have to tell you the story. You all know it. Only two kinds of people are gonna stay on this beach: those that are already dead and those that are gonna die. Now guet off your butts."

God I love that movie. I'm away to find a beach somewhere and run across it.

Aye big defensive effort from Hardie. He's the nailed on Scotland 7 currently.

Not long till Du Preez becomes the nailed on 8

Ah, sic transit Gloria mundi. Which translates as, "They deserved it and we've got a lot of work to do before next week."

It was an exciting match, if not an advert for flowing rugby. Lacey's laissez faire approach to the breakdown meant tackle area was "contested fiercely2 but also stopped anything else developing. But the Luvvies deserved their win, just.

Hopefully we'll have a functioning lineout next week, and a 10 who can kick penalties.
