Re: 1872 Cup 2015, Round 2: Glasgow v Edinburgh
The pitch at Firhill used to be even worse than Scotstoun, so I doubt that was ever an option.
Was it ever realistic to get another stadium, not set up for rugby, ready to go over a new year weekend, even assuming that their surfaces were able to be played.
It is not just the pitch but the crowd considerations, the stewarding, the police, local residents etc. I don't imagine that many people involved in those places would even be at work at this stage on New Years Eve

I think the two standby 'home' pitches for Glasgow are Rugby Park, Kilmarnock; and Broadwood at Cumbernauld. Both are 3/4G artificial pitched. However both have scheduled football matches on Saturday.
I would be very surprised if Firhill would (a) be playable, or (b) be available. Even if there were no match scheduled, the likely damage to the surface from a rugby match which had not been prepared for would probably put the owners off from letting it out.
As for Ibrox / Parkhead, I don't think they would be in the running. Far too expensive if nothing else.

Apparently Glasgow are going to do all they can to make it feel like a home game - I can set some cars on fire and bus in a load of hookers from Leith if that helps the weedge feel more at home?

Re: 1872 Cup 2015, Round 2: Glasgow v Edinburgh
Due to the 1872 Scottish Cup fixture being moved from Scotstoun to BT Murrayfield this Saturday (2 January), after the Scotstoun pitch was deemed unplayable, the club can confirm the following details:
- The game at BT Murrayfield will kick-off at 5.15pm on Saturday 2 January
- All tickets for the fixture at Scotstoun will be valid for the game at BT Murrayfield
- At this time no additional tickets are available but a limited number of tickets may become available tomorrow and Glasgow Warriors supporters will get the first chance to purchase these...
Get there could be issues with stewarding numbers & ratios etc, and perhaps wanting to try and maintain the illusion it's a Glasgow 'home game'. But given the capacity of Murrayfield & the chance to make the best out of a weird situation would be disappointing to limit it.
Re: 1872 Cup 2015, Round 2: Glasgow v Edinburgh
That's a very disappointing decision.
We'll be lucky to get 5k there now given a lot of people won't travel

I'd say there will be a few spare seats alright.
SRU are kind of damned if they do and damned if they don't, because rescheduling a derby for a Six Nations weekend is pretty unpalatable too.

Edinburgh season tickets not accepted, despite the stadium being empty. Outstanding PR!

Not exactly PR genius on the extra ticket sales...
I assume it's probably hard/expensive to get enough trained staff right now hence no extra seats.

What about if you are a neutral and couldn't get a ticket for the Scotstoun leg and are now refused a ticket. Absolute terrible decision. 5k in a 67k stadium wont sound pretty and not sure Sky will be too pleased about that either. Missed opportunity to grow the game in Scotland.
That said, happy new year everyone.

Happy New Year everyone!
Will hope to grab a couple of tickets for 2nd leg. If it's a mostly empty stadium, I'll be pretty disappointed.
Lack of attendance is the reason that Murrayfield is either known as a library or as graveyard - due to that eery silence.
23k for 1st leg was amazing and should be built upon. Glasgow have 20+ Scotland players so Murrayfield should feel like home anyway.
I say throw open the doors and fill Murrayfield!
As compensation to those that travelled, offer turkey sandwiches? Or possibly the left overs of some other tanned bird (from Stockbridge, not Leith, so she'll be organic).

Well, Mr Mesmeric, a Happy New Year to yourself and to all the usual suspects.

Thank you for setting the tone for the rest of the year. I'm glad to see that Political Correctness has not caught up with us yet. However I am disappointed that you didn't manage to work "well stuffed" into your post.

Happy New Year Jimbo!
Wouldn't want top put off the punters with a well-stuffed bird. Nobody likes sloppy seconds.
Now the tone has definitely been lowered sufficiently for the coming year.

really depends on the quality and consistency of the gravy.
As Tony Hancock once said, "At least my mother's gravy used to move."
p.s. Glasgow to win by 16. Or crash and burn spectacularly.

We'll there has been various things going on over the last couple of days regarding the switch to Murrayfield but ultimately there is going to be an 8000 'sell out'
Shame a bigger crowd wasn't allowed but that is a big enough number to generate a decent atmosphere. Twice what we normally get for Edinburgh games!

At least the game is being played.
It would have been great if it could have been played at Scotsoun but for those 8,000 in the stadium the atmosphere should be good enough. Even with the normal attendance, it's not too bad if you're in the middle of the stand.

Glasgow playing so much better this week and really aught to be out of sight. The scrum looks so much better with Reid and Fargerson propping and they look livelier all over the pitch.
Still all to play for though, a tight game!

As well as having Gray jr and Peterson packing down behind them.
It's worth to mention though that the Embra scrum hasn't looked quite the same without Dickinson.

Rugby momentum is a strange thing though - if Edinburgh can pick up a quick try or 3 points then Glasgow's 73% possession will have counted for naught

Glasgow getting so many east let offs in this game.
Just as we get in their 22 we give them easy penalties or mess up the lineout

Not really showing much by way of a range of passing.
I haven't seen it go through the hands of the Glasgow backline once.
