Me personally am looking forawrd to this more then Mayweather v Pacquiao. This is obviously not one for the purist but on the skinny of it must be a FOTY contender. Matthysse is probably the harder puncher with Provodnikov having the sturdier mandibles. Both have greqat stamina and like to be the one on the front foot.

Matthysse concerned me with how easily he went down against Molina. Not sure if its catching up with him or that he wasn't really motivated for Molina.

Am edging towards Provodnikov via late stoppage

Also kudos for Boxnation for picking this one up

Quite funny he says fonfara is too heavy, when the reason he beat zbik (debatable), vera (debatable) vera 2, Lee, Manfredo was because he outwieghed them by at LEAST 10lbs some cases closer to 20

Hope Chavez chases a rematch, fonfara does him just as easily if not easier and delivers a career ending beating.to chavez

Didn't think Chavez stood a chance against Fonfara, but didn't think he'd be taken out inside the distance.

His chin was questioned further down this thread. That's the type of fight that would merit PPV. Thank God for fighters who are willing to test themselves - bravo to both lads.

Out of pure interest? Has anybody not squeaked past Provodnikov? Haven't seen anybody give him a boxing lesson, and I'd put money that outside the big two, nobody from 135-147 can

He's an incredible fighter. Easy to hit, slow and somewhat crude - he is able to compete thanks to his incredible will and heart. Had to laugh when the board's resident genius predicted Matthysse would destroy him early. Until he fades, no-one's likely to have an easy night with him.

I had it 115-113 Matthysse. I think Provo would have had more of a chance if it wernt for the early eye injury but the fight lived up to expectations. Thought my prediction was on in round 11 aswell.

That's why each and every boxer that laces a pair has my upmost respect.

The soap opera that's been Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. finally came to a close. This is a guy whom claimed his father's name hindered his career(Chavez Jr only got those $3m pay cheques because of his fathers name). Now he can retire and go look after his wife and daughter. Chavez Jr never have the skill of his father or the dedication.

Andre Ward, Gennady Golovkin, Sergey Kovalev and Adonis Stevenson must be gutted they missed out on the Chavez Jr pay day.

Just watched the Chavez fight and he was woeful. Not only Chavez thought he was winning the fight, he says that Fonfara was too heavy (the irony)and wants a rematch at 170 catch weight!

Chavez is done!

I give Chavez a little bit more respect than some. Yes he's earnt well above his ability due to his name, but the guy wasn't exactly terrible... He did get to a half decent world level. Others have earnt less with much more talent, but is he to be blamed for that?

If he did have more dedication he could've gone further, but his career wasnt exactly a disaster. Andy lee gets plaudits and not this guy?

I've always liked Chavez. He's a much better fighter than he's allowed himself to be. Has a strong chin, a decent engine, and a fearsome left hook. While his father's name has probably made him richer than he deserves, I think there is a case of him maybe being damaged by how easy enough everything came for him. Two amateur fights? Mexican PPV after a handful? Can't remember who said this, but it's hard to go training when you wake up in silk pyjamas. Must be doubly so when that's the only life you've ever known.

Will always remember his comment when asked why he couldn't make the 168lbs stipulation for Vera (and quickly changed it to a light heavyweight catch weight), "it just didn't make sense. We aren't fighting for a title". It sometimes takes the jester to expose the insanity of the situation.

Matthysse didn't sneak past him at all Truss, in reality it was a relatively comfortable fight for him, controlled it behind the jab and Locketts 118-110 scorecard was more indicative of the fight than a draw. Personally had him 8 rounds to 2 up after ten, losing the 11th and then the 12th was low on action so could have gone either way. The only impressive thing about Provodnikov was his chin and determination, his wild swings lacked any class and he was soundly beaten, Molina gave him more trouble.

The majority of scores on my Twitter timeline were 115-113. There were a lot of 114-114 cards, too.

The only person who seemed to be talking any sense on Twitter was Lou DiBella aside from that Dan Rafael, Lampley and Kellerman were all awful.

Didnt think that Matthysse's corner helped him too much, said he was miles infront (which he was but not as much a his corner thought) and sometime tried to play it safe esepcially the 12th

He connected the cleaner shots and harder shots, really painted Provo at time but Provo wasnt hurt once, and some of his shots moved lucas so you could score rounds for provo, but matthysse won 6 clearly imo.

Matthysse vs Crawford is now the fight at 140, Crawford will have a chin check but hes the superior fighter boxer and shluld win but no one dominates Matthysse and he'll know he has to bring the fire in every fight as he has been in too many close fights now doesnt want it going to the scorecards (judah, alexander, garcia and now provo were close scorecard fights). Think matthysse beats garcia in a rematch if danny stayed around, seems to have lost something since the first matthyssr fight

Do think Lucas made it a bit harder for himself than necessary by backing off a bit after those horrendously one sided middle rounds. He looked very relaxed and was clearly aware he had the fight. At that point, however, Providnikov was there to be unloaded on at will. If Mathysse had properly taken advantage of this by becoming more aggressive and keeping Ruslan in that state, he'd have either halted him or landed enough debilitating body shots to rule out a prodnikov come back. More body shots is my only criticism of Lucas' performance. Anyone who can have Matthysse on his bike and avoiding engaging in the late rounds is frightening individual.

Although Ruslan's performance was immensely brave, we've seen the effect standing up to Lucas' power had on Garcia, and Ruslan took even more. If he's not going to learn defense, might want to avoid punchers for a little while

Yea lucas is one of the best body punchers in boxing and when you are opposite a guy with a granite chin body shots could be the answer, but lucas clearly had a gameplan to hit and move, didnt want to stand in provos range of fire for any period of time. He coudlve tried to move forward and grind provo down, but it was a risk and clealry one matthysse didnt want to do

Provo took a hell of a lot of punishment but I think he was saved somewhat that he did have lucas back tracking so didnt have matthysses full weight and power behind those shots

Interesting to see if Ruslan can come back from this, if his chin hasnt taken tok much punishment his aggression and will to win gives him a chance against anyone, as someone mentioned no one has dominated him 120-108 or close, theyve only eeked past him

Provo vs Rios is always going to be there I think and can see them both trying that fight if their careers stall again as its an easy sell

I havea feeling Froch will say along with Eddie Hearn, it was ring rust etc and its still a great fight for the sport of boxing and the fans.....

I have a feeling Chavez is suddenly far less of a PPV draw than before last night. The Mexicans in attendance were apoplectic. Fight's dead.

Personally no idea how you could get a 118-110 card. LM 100% won the fight for me, 115-113/116-112 sort of cards were bang on the money.

Entertaining, but Pascal vs Kovalev is still the #1 FOTY so far in my eyes. Didn't quite live up to it's billing this one, mainly as LM controlled the fight with the jab and didn't get drawn in to close quarters war.

Scored it 115-113 for LM echo what Coxy just mentioned, Matthysse definitely a clear winner. Kudos to both guys absolutely thrilling fight and Ruslan I love you that man is made of metal.

Anyone seen the maidana vs matthysse amateur bout, saw it facebook the other day but it cut short just before the result was announced.  Anyone know who won?

I read a while back that they fought 3 or 4 times.. 1 draw and the others wins for maidana. At least that's how I remember it... No idea if its true, or with my advancing dementia if I actually remember what I read correctly

Maidana beat him in the amateurs, twice I think and then 2 draws, matthysse never beat him
