United bus attacked, have to survey damage. Anything more than a few projectiles from idiots and I'd expect severe punishment for West Ham.

Its bottles being thrown. United and the police were "naive" at best to turn up late as they did and not have much police presence.

It'll be p!ssed up morons.

Arsenal now qualify for the CL, require a point against Villa to skip the early rounds.

City will qualify for the CL barring a loss to Swansea and United loss.

So bus is fairly badly damaged (windows smashed), members of the public (West Ham fans) and a police officer injured.

What punishment would be suitable?

Fine is pointless.

Points, transfer ban etc would just encourage other idiots to act out and try and get other clubs in trouble.

I think first game of next season behind closed doors.

Shut up. I am going to keep it as nice as that.

You give the man no credit to even see the blooming actions. He probably thought it was media blowing it all out of proportion. They've released a statement since saying they will chase life bans for those involved. After that, what can we do? We aren't the police, we don't control Green Street as a club.

You want that stuff not to happen? Police it properly, with adequate numbers and no aggressive tactics that an obviously overwhelmed police force always resort to with football fans.

Manchester United can take some blame for again this season turning up late as they can at a stadium. Third time at least, born of arrogance.

And as ever you punish the imbeciles, not just tarnish a club and a group of people. We want to learn lessons from football's ugly past but by god people are ignorant on it.

But a club with its own very disgusting history of hooliganism, airbrushed by success on the pitch and full of fans who can only make any noise when they're laughing at dead men from Liverpool.

I do presume those asking for behind closed doors games will also be after the same for Spurs and Arsenal after fighting at their place. Or no away fans to travel thanks to the Chelsea fans who smashed windows around East London and forced the local community to put hoardings around the statues of the World Cup boys in Green Street as they attempted to paint it blue.

There was a historic occasion there last night, and the same people who seemed to boil their own p*ss out of us making a big deal about it also seem desperate to ignore it and make out war was started on the streets by 50,000 West Ham fans. All you need is a quip about th taxpayers and you'll have become the puppets of the media.

Inexcusable actions of the few. Hate mongering afterwards has never worked well in the past and won't work well here or in the future. Embarrassing

It's a bit silly though that the first thing you said is blaming Manchester United for turning up later. It's the fault of those fans, it was incredibly stupid and dangerous. To try and shift the blame to the team bus arriving later is making excuses for them.

Trying to brush it under the carpet doesn't work either and that's what your owner originally did, perhaps led by wrong information, and it is what you have tried to do on here. I think the game was overshadowed by those events for everybody but West Ham fans, it ruined it. Was hard for a neutral to be particularly emotional about the fans moving stadium when hours before they had shown the bad side of football fans.

Sorry Dolph but if what happened last night was at Anfield and the chairman had immediately come out as Sullivan did and laid blame at the opposition and downplayed the event then you would all over it like a rash.

I know your not renowned for your unbiased debate, but if the chairman didnt know the extent of what happened, then keep your mouth shut until you know the facts....or be a bit media savvy, and say you dont know the extent and will provide a statement when he does!

Pathetic fans, and pathetic to even try and defend it...

Im not defending it, its pathetic that actually being reasonable in discussion of it is seen as defending it.

Liverpool 1) nothing to do with it. 2) I would have accepted some circumstance to it.

Frankly, you are ignoring what he has done since because of what he said once. Which is low, because you are informed and choosing to ignore it. He had right to assume United were somewhat at fault, they have history this season for it. If they hadnt the arrogant attitude they have then it would likely have been avoided.

Equally, policing has to be spoken about.

And finally, to tarnish a club because of a sour incident is pathetic and loaded, loaded comments purposefully billed to wind me up a touch too. To call me a hooligan by proxy, a majority of fans hooligans who I know are not, to call Sullivan it basically cos he made money in porn. Bias is laced all over comments and its as much from others as it is me. Sorry to give the other side of an argument, but what do you expect? I'm not gonna let people chat nonsense about my club without comment.

I don't think the club is blamed, nor is every fan. I think you're trying to deflect away from the truth which is that the blame lies entirely on those fans, there was no defending it and Manchester United arriving late is not even close to being an excuse. They will hopefully be rightly banned and the West Ham fanbase will be better for it, but the fact that you have brought up a few excuses hardly makes you seem condemning of those fans.

Yes but you must understand that for most, it was completely overshadowed, which you denied earlier in this thread. Maybe not for you, but I think it was overshadowed and in the future it will be what a lot of people remember of the event. It's a shame that a historic moment was overshadowed by those actions, I think accepting 100% that they were to blame is what should happen rather than trying to deflect it to smaller contributing factors.

You'll need to read back, Crimey. Hooligan owners for a hooligan set of fans/hooligan club.

I'm explaining it Crimey. You're just going base at what happened. I am telling you why. I have constantly said it is inexcusable, but I cannot debate this if you are going to just assume I am defending it because I'm a West Ham fan. They are reasons it happened, and should not be ignored. I am annoyed it happened for many reasons, and having been at a game where it kicked off appallingly in the past I was livid with the policing as much as I was with the fans. We are seeing currently the impact of washing an event away because of a set of fans, it is not clever.

I don't care about other fans, Crimey. I didnt when I commented then, I don't know. How you remember our last game means nothing to me. It was our night. It isnt historic for you lot, so theres nowt to overshadow. For the people who will forever remember it there was no chance the idiocy of a few will overshadow it. You're gonna have to get your head around that before discussing this with me.

I cannot debate it if you just assume talking about it without saying "OFF WITH THEIR HEADS" every five seconds means I loved what happened.

It's all very well backtracking as he has today, the comments were already out there, you yourself were saying yesterday on FB...
"it'll be egged up as I've seen as the bus was "smashed up" - which it wasn't. There's gonna be some intensity and emotional people everywhere, I guess I'm not surprised."
In reply to "It is smashed!!!" you state:
"It's not a smoking wreck struggling down the road like GTA though is it"

You seem to think i'm debating whether it was awful. It was.

It was also one incident, in an environment the club has no control over. Bans from the ground? Not strong enough, its a police matter, far more than a club one.

I'd only seen bits of it then, and frankly you can wonder whether I want stuff on my facebook posted on here either.

Smashed up was the terminology I was battling with at the time though. Which my point at the end there, to friends I hasten to add and people you have no idea my relationship to comment with.

But hey, thats obviously worse than how you've labelled the club and fans. And thrown in fully well knowing it would wind me up and cause me to react. No respect for me, let alone the club.

It happened because those fans were idiots who wanted to be "hard". The things you're saying are excuses and not very good ones. I don't think you're defending it, but you're trying to shift the blame from the bad fans to the police and to Manchester United - which is deflecting the real issue. From the videos I saw the police were simply stood in front of the bus, deflecting the things being thrown. What did they do at this game that forced those fans to start throwing things at the bus? What part of the bus being late made those fans throw the things?

Putting the focus on those two factors is deflecting from the fact that the fans were 100% in the wrong and those things did not cause them to do it.

I need to do some actual planning with my PPA. As a basic point:

Disappointed with the idiots who did it
Don't think the club should be blamed as a whole entity
Sullivan has corrected mistakes by delivering strong message with full knowledge, and is human so will make mistakes answering questions on the spot.
Policing was disappointing.
Man United were naive a,d a touch foolish.
Still inexcusable, but more a police matter than a club matter.
A neutral tarnished view doesnt worry me, so I cant really care about that. And I will forever remember the game and ceremonies, the nonsense from idiots won't ruin something very special for me.
Be careful tarnishing a whole club and fan group due to idiots, we have a lot of history that shows this isnt wise.
