The thought that Wayne Rooney will be starting for England this summer is astonishing.

He's so visibly short of match fitness, and is struggling to keep the pace in a stop-start encounter against Norwich.

He's been playing very well in midfield, and it would seem he should make that position his own. He's certainly a better option than any Woy will pick

When your club is still in with a chance of getting 4th you rest two really in form players in Martial and Rashford and stick Rooney up front with Memphis who's badly out of form supplying him.

Norwich all but gone now. Have to win both their remaining games to have a shout of staying up.

United control their top 4 destiny if City fail to beat Arsenal.

Chelsea haven't quite got their old tempo back but they are beginning to play with swagger like the champions they were. Maybe Chelsea's well deserved draw with Tottenham reminded them that they are still good players.

Terrible, lethargic first half. Embarrassing stuff against Villa. Had a dodgy feeling & it looks like it's unfolding to be a very difficult day at the worst club in the PL. Tiote & Colback is great sitting deep against better sides.....not Villa. Get Shelvey & Mitrovic on ASAP.

Matic with a lovely finish.

Besides that goal from Sunderland the biggest threat has been Defoe, been offside a few times trying to get in behind.

Arguably the worst performance of the season. Fitting that the announcer has chosen "Start Me Up" for the first song at half time

How things can change over the space of minutes.  Jermaine defoe a natural scorer.  The advantage Sunderland have is that they score goals and have a natural goal scorer.  They have also tightened up at the back.  But Chelsea are still in this match.

Newcastle have to focus on getting that goal at Aston Villa.  Seems to be a big problem at Aston Villa with Villa supporters disrupting play by throwing beach balls on to the pitch. Aston Villa are trying to avoid a record 12 defeats in a row.

The thing is, we haven't played badly this game either, Costa has looked sharp again too but fair play to Sunderland.

Decisive set of results.  Newcastle have to beat Tottenham and Sunderland have to get no more than one point out of their two remaining games for Newcastle to remain in the Premiership.

What a terrible terrible job Steve McClaren did at Newcastle. His fall from grace has been precipitous.

At the start of the season Mike Ashley decided to invest in Newcastle - but he had the wrong person at the helm Steve McClaren and took too long to recognise it.  He knew that there were problems at the club last season with the second half of the season being played at a relegation form ... and so should have been paying close attention at what was happening in the dressing room.

Difficult to know what will happen to Newcastle in the Championship but one imagines Benitez will leave.  Key is getting in a strong manager with recent form.
