Some stats on the Proteas.

I was bored today and thought I will play around on the Cricinfo website and check some statistics of the South African cricket team.

SA prior to isolation.
Tests played 172, won 38, drawn 57, lost 77, win ratio .49, average per wicket 26.99
Win ratio 5th behind England, Australia, West Indies and Pakistan.
Centuries scored 105
Double centuries scored 8
Five wicket hauls 121
Series played 42, won 10, drawn 6, lost 26, win ratio 0.38

SA after isolation
Tests played 205, won 99, drawn 57, lost 49, win ratio 2.02 average per wicket 37.40
Win ratio second to Australia.
Centuries scored 222
Double centuries scored 18
Five wicket hauls 125
Series played 72, won 43, drawn 13, lost 16, win ratio 2.68

When you look at these figures, South Africa from being a poor cricketing side most of the time has turned their results around in an almost miraculous way. Granted we only used to play against the "white" teams prior to isolation, but when you look at the traditional foes, our record has improved against them.

Nice improvements for SA, Biltong.

The key for future success will no doubt hinge on keeping the core of your side together and as we have recently discovered - your ability to fend off everyone else as they try to knock SA of their perch.

Everyone will want to challenge the top dog and the pressure to keep winning year after year is no easy task. Personally, I believe SA has a good chance of doing this - maybe for 3 or 4 years. England and India might try and upset the apple cart but I don't think they have the consistency nor capability (home & away) to sustain No. 1 for any significant length of time.
