Board Meetup - Froch vs Kessler

This is something I've been thinking of for a while. I'm not sure what type of a response this will get but here goes.

I'm sure like most you of that your the only one out of your group of friends that follows boxing on a daily basis opposed to just watching the 'big fights'. I'm sure most people on the board are the only one in their group if friends who watch Ringside on a Thursday or Friday Fight Night.

So do you think there's be interest in a board meet up for a boxing event in the future? So picking in a relatively low key British domestic bill and everyone meeting up for it. I know not everyone may be in the position to do this (finances, family etc).

This board or the internet is the only option that most have to discuss boxing. Some people may have never been to a fight before (I've only been to one which was Khan vs McCloskey) so it would be something that people on the board feel is viable?

Still not sure what type of a response this wil get but let me know anyway... good or bad

Well I suppose the main thing is a date that suits most people and a half decent fight that tickets can be got for and somewhere that is accessible to most people.

Well London is possibly the cheapest to access on the whole for people and usually have a decent show once a month so London wouldn't be a idea. I'll be travelling from Dublin so makes no difference to me.

I think it is a pretty good idea chaps. Pedro deserves a for being the first to offer the suggestion...given whoever came up with it was bound to be looked upon as a bit strange wanting to meet a group of random men!

All joking aside though I think all people wanting to do such a social meet should get something arranged. Everyone enjoys a bit of a banter and good boxing convo on here so the chance to do so in public sounds good to me...and if it does turn to real fisticuffs im sure if we are at a Warren fightcard we can just get whoever wants to fight on the undercard given the shi* quality of his shows!!

But yeh im definitly keen...London would definitly be the best and since im working within the journalism industry now if people are genuinly interested im sure I can have a word and see if i cant get something arranged for us all.

It is a genuinely nice idea Pedro but I always think these places work better with anonymity. You have to put up with buffoons claiming they are Floyd Mayweather and the like, but generally the community here has grown through our on-line personalities and I would worry that meeting up would end up damaging that community spirit. Having said that, I am a very infrequent contributor to the rugby union board and I think some of those guys meet up around the pubs in London for some games so I guess it can work in the right circumstances.

I am with Chris though, I would be tempted if TRUSS was going. Who wouldn't be intrigued to meet a 4 foot 11 American with a 52 inch chest?

Agree with Tino's initial point, it is kind of like you know how you hear the same person on the radio every morning and you build up a picture of them in your mind, and then when you see them on telly it is like "That's not him" and it looks weird because there's this voice that you recognise coming out of the wrong person. Happened to me with John Inverdale.

Anyway, it might be a bit like that, a crushing disappointment.

Also, I doubt that TIMC would let me go off to the big city to meet a load of strange men (?) off the internet.

I think its a good idea, but too many cooks spoil the broth. I think it should be arranged with about 10 people initially. I can't imagine trying to get a word in edgeways if there were 30+ people who knew more about boxing than me. It'd be like here, when someone like Chris or Tino talks, there would be silence yet when someone like me pipes up I'd get shot down.

I wouldn't go, not because I think you're not all genuinely lovely people - but because I probably wouldn't open my mouth and be seen as shy and reserved, and thats not me. Too many go and it'll be too intense.

Go for it, alma. I wouldn't dream of judging anyone if they were in favour of it and if I can be so presumptive, in light of your recent bad news, I can see the appeal for you. If enough people were going whom I like (waingro, PBF, Young_Towzer etc etc), I may be tempted but with my parents 350 miles away and my in-laws 4000 miles away, getting out of family commitments is never easy. Not sure how Mrs Windows would react when I told her I was going out on the beer with a bunch of guys I met on the internet...

I actually quite like Wales, Steffan. My best mate lives in Llantarnam and is about to move back to England and I'm quite gutted. The pub food portions are huge and the women even huger. What's not to like?

The size of the women in Wales is the very reason I formed a relationship with an attractive English girl instead. Agree on the Steak and Chips though
