Who am I?

1).I have three top 3 finishes in Majors, but no top tens in the Open Championship.

2).I have represented my country in the Ryder or Presidents Cup three times.

3).In the mid-90's I missed 46 consecutive PGA Tour cuts.

Last week's Walker Cup featured a player whose name is an anagram of that of a well known British footballer (full international) and manager. Most of his playing career was in the 60's and 70's, managed until the '90's.
Over 500 League appearances, over 100 goals, and a First Division Championship winners medal! Over 20 international caps.

No full names count, Michael Stewart for instance.
