Ward and Hopkins both called Floyd out, too. It's because they'd make a fortune to fight a guy who couldn't pop a balloon.

I'm not a fan of ward's style and would be perfectly happy if kov wipes the smug grin off his face hermy.

I hope it's a fair fight and will take a view afterwards on how fair the ref was and the scoring is, if judges are needed.

Looking forward to this one - think I had Ward winning the last one by max 2 rounds but could see why it was classed as a bit "ropey". Was a good solid fight.

This one should be better - bit more emotion involved and a bit of of a heated build up.

Think Ward will scrape past again in a tough fight - but wouldnt be surprised to see Kov win to set up a trilogy - especially given Stevenson has absolutely no intention of fighting anyone.

I've seen the weigh in. Was leaving to Kovalev, but I think Ward wins this. Tough, but clear decision.

Will Kovalev tire again or will the extra conditioning see him home?

I think Kovalev will make some adjustments. I wonder whether he will try walking ward down more this time.

Very impressed by Kov so far,pacing himself and picking the right moments to attack...when he isn't he is just popping off the jab to stop Ward from working, actually making it look easy at the moment...3-0.

Very tight round to score...10-10 for me but the 1 big shot came from Ward and that's probably enough for him to shade it with the judges..49-47 Kovalev for me atm

Have 4-1 Kovalev. Started a lot better than I thought.

Good combination at the end of that round from Ward, but wasn't enough to take it in my opinion. Kovalev back on top with the jab and 2 lovely over the top rights. 59-56

Ward again closing the round better but just isn't doing enough throughout first 2 and half...Kovalev is winning the battle of the jabs...69-66..

Hahaha...Max Kellerman 'it looked borderline to me'...right after a clear replay showing a punch well below the belt. He basically uppercutted his man sausage off lol!

Kellerman has an agenda now he's debating Stephen A Smith everyday.

I had Kov 3 rounds up at the time of stoppage, though no denying Ward was having a big round! However the man just lacks class in the ring, such a dirty fighter. Even before the 3 low blows that stopped the fight he had caught Kov twice with such punches in the earlier rounds.

I'll tell you one thing, his faith in god definitely gets repayed, the man upstairs tuning in and lending a helping hand when he can clearly!

It was worth staying up just for Paulie's mic work.

Had Kovalev up 4-2-1 but Ward was winning the 8th big. The finish was a shocker - you have to give top fighters the opportunity to fight back. Ward backers will argue it was academic and he'd have won anyway. Certainly looked that way but even if that finishing punch wasn't low (it was, and Ward should have had a point off) you can't stop fights of this magnitude like that.

Disappointing.

Shambles! Kov was winning for sure. Ward was coming on strong, but we will never know if he could of stopped him clean, or even dominated the remaining rounds.

The low blows at the stoppage were real obvious.

Ward was surely going to win going away down the straight but the stoppage really cocked things up. This is the same division that Yaqui Lopez fought Saad Muhammed!

If you stop every fight between top fighters the moment one looks hurt for the first time, guess what? No more great fights.

I haven't seen it yet, but sounds like hermy was right to have concerns about weeks... fair play fella.

As for fights where one guy looks like he's on top and surely going to pull away? We only have to look back to josh klit... even brook spence to a degree to know you can't do that. Second winds, fights changing on one punch etc.

Seems a shame that that clear result we were hoping for didn't happen.

Also interesting from reports that kov looked the boxer and Ward the banger... volume of jabs v power shots in terms of what you want to score

Disgusting refereeing, Ward should have been Disqualified not allowed to walk away with the belts. That's has left a very bad taste in my mouth.

I agree Hogey. If not disqualified, at least a point or two taken off. Kovalev should of been allowed to recover from the fouls.

I've always backed Ward. He's an excellent fighter but he's dirty!

Ward wasn't even half as dirty as he was in the first fight

It was a series of low blows that ended the fight

However the punch that marked the beginning of the end was a cracking right hand that was picture perfect in timing technique and accuracy

It was only going to be a matter of time in my opinion and had that fight gone a few more rounds ward would have got the tko

I was very impressed with both Ward and kovalev and that fight was much better than the first imo

Not so sure about the shot after the bell it was very marginal and I'm pretty sure he would have koed him anyway sooner or later the skill gap was ridiculous and chucky telegraphed his intentions so badly

Paulie had a sensational performance behind the mic I wish we could steal him from showtime one of the best in the game for sure

Just watched it back again to make sure my eyes actually weren't lying to me.

How the feck has Ward got away with that? I had him again 3-4 rounds down at the start of the 8th. He had already landed 2-3 solid low blows with warning earlier on...then landed an absolute hail Mary ball bag uppercut to stop Kovalev and then he smashed him with a lead right followed by 3 unanswered low blows that were not borderline...they were big time low...the ref runs over and just stops it no count.

Absolutely horrific fight. Have to say, not a fan of Ward and has attitude at all after tonight. Really has left a dark smudge on the sport.
