First topic message reminder :

The other thread is coming to an end and I think it's nice to have a new memory to take us through this year.

And with the new season starting today, what better time to refresh things and start again. The preamble of pre-season is over: 2016/17 LETS BE AVIN YA

Deli Alli needs to quit the diving, watching the Spurs v leicester game was awful.

Should never of been a penalty either, hate diving in football

Don't have a goal threat, a real one. Perfectly level game, playing a bit more of the football, but they have a threat who can score goals and we don't.

Yeah, didn't think much of WHU's summer additions, so not surprised at how things are unfolding

Lukaku will definitely be gone next summer, needs to step up a level now. Could see him replacing Ibrahimovic next summer

Same problems as ever. Need a striker, dither over how much a good striker costs. Same problem for a long time

He had a terrible game, but it's stupid to cherry pick performances. That's the first time this season he's made any mistakes like that.

I was happy with the game at Crystal Palace, had the same feeling I had throughout the 13/14 season which was that no matter what we'd be able to score again, so even when Palace were pulling it back, felt relatively relaxed. Coutinho was fantastic again, he's showing more consistent ability to take control of games this season. Worst performance by Lallana all season though and we missed Milner at left back.

Overall though, this is the best start to a league campaign for Liverpool in my lifetime so I'm pretty chuffed.

Liverpool have become an odd side now as a Utd fan, there's no longer the old school hate figures at the club, the Gerrards, Carraghers, Rodgers or King Kennys. I actually enjoy watching how they play nowadays.

That first goal was just ridiculous though. Lovren had a nightmare and the keeper joined him.

The overall game though was very good. Becoming a recurring theme in our games that I will look at the scoreline thinking "How the hell have we managed to only be up by that amount when we should have clear daylight!" Must make things exciting for the neutrals at least...

RE the best start in your lifetime, could potentially be the same story for me as I'm only 3 years older. Glad you also know what it feels like to be one of the lucky Liverpool fans who have never got to see them lift the league title....

The local rivalries are just more and more diluted.

Managers, owners, players, fans not from the country never mind area.

Also think it matters less as you get older and just try to enjoy the football.

do agree with this, footballers and football is just something you cant relate to anymore. think football has also gone more boring. liked it in the 90's. wasnt as good technically but teams generally attacked each other and there was still a element of physicality in the game

as united fans we were lucky for very long with the class of 92 keeping a home grown element throughout most of my life. now i look at the team and think that nobody in that team gives a sh!t about the club. all of them just mercenary's now

I imagine as the season goes on if Liverpool are in with a sniff of winning the title then the passion of hatred will re-emerge, especially as it's 26 years, the same gap that it took for Utd.

I think for clubs the size of United it's hard to keep the same level of intensity in a local rivalry, the rivalries become more centred around their nearest challengers.

A total waste of time keeping him out of the squad in the first place, don't want to play him, that's fine but keeping him out of the training just seemed to create an unnecessary side show. There was no suggestion of a disciplinary problem which is usually the reason for that kind of decision.

I'd have named him in the Europa League squad as well, because he can get more minutes in that competition which I'm not sure United particularly care about, allowing other players to remain fresh for the league.

Lack of respect by Manchester United in the first place. Where schweinsteiger will ever return to the levels he achieved at FC Bayern and Germany are remote, he's still head a shoulders above most of mourinho's current central midfielders

Re local rivalries.

Was at Blues Villa yesterday, good atmosphere.
It certainly matters to the players, managers coaches as well as it does to the fans obviously.

This is a massive derby, although I'm sure some will disagree.
If your not from the areas or not lived there, it won't matter I suppose.

I have missed the second city derby, it's a great fixture and one the fans look for when the fixtures come out.

Its certainly 2 games out of the season where you don't want to lose.

Only things I didn't enjoy about yesterday is that we did t win, lucky to get a point in fairness.

Also being kept in for longer than we were told.

The down side is the violence.
Police did a great job in fairness.
There was some trouble about 10 mins from the ground, which was a pain as the road was blocked off for a while.

I look forward to the return fixture.

Stoke 3 Swansea 1.  As I think most people noted at the time the replacement of Francesco Guidolin with Bob Bradley seemed strange.  Francesco Guidolin's results weren't bad given the fixtures, while Bob Bradley lacks the managerial experience and pedigree of Guidolin.   Swansea haven't improved since Bob Bradley took over and maybe they are a little worse. But examining the stats of the Stoke Swansea game, Swansea had more possession, similar number of shots, shots on targets, corners and twice the number of fouls - which suggests they competed well. Maybe they are just lacking in quality.

Like I said I think the derby still matters as a stand alone game but are people still checking their rivals results and hoping they've lost etc?

I don't think so.

I don't think he's a very good player, I did state we had lots of brain dead players in the same post as criticising him for leaving hazard free in the box So can see where you've come up with that conclusion.

I still check Everton and United results first after Liverpool. Then City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs.

With the risk of being called an "obsessed about United" Liverpool fan, the first non Liverpool result I check is and always has been United. I always want them to lose, even in European games. Everton? I don't care about them apart from derby day.

This season, it's been Norwich or Brighton, so slightly different focus for me. Usually though, Sunderland would be checked pretty sharpish & the feeling that will come from them being relegated & us replacing them in the PL next season, will be a joyous moment.

The first thing I check that's not real madrid related is if any barca players get injured. Sadly it happened to the only barca player i like in Iniesta but the day a career ending injury occurs to Messi or Neymar, it will be a good day indeed.

Ent.

For me I guess it's an age thing.

When I was younger I would look for Blues result to see how they did.
Then ther was a period of time Villa and Blues were in different leagues, so that and the fact I'm older I never botherd.

I don't bother looking to see how Blues do now more concerned with the how the teams around us are doing.
If they lose to a lower league team in the cup I give my blues mates some stick etc and vice versa.
