No need to welcome. It's familiar territory to Evertonians. We lived there for most of the 90s!

Probably although Mirallas looks to have rediscovered his interest in football so could have a chance of starting.

No real improvement there at all.

James McCarthy would be ahead of Barry and Deulofeu ahead of Mirallas obviously. That team is not much better than last years.

If they lose Lukaku, they truly are screwed.

No bias there. Always liked Miralles, selfish at times, but a signifcant goal threat, compared to Deulofeu. He might find himself back in favour, now the Spanish management has left. James McCarthy is quite simply shocking.

No chance of McCarthy being ahead of Barry.

Last season we were widely seen as underachieving due to the manager. Our hope is that the change in manager sees a significant improvement in performance across the team and particularly in our ability to defend.

Is it bias? Where is the big improvement?

There's certainly a justification to discuss turnover regarding transfers as it shows it's not excessive in the context of the club.

Someone on minimum wage would find the cost of a Ferrarri expensive as it's not within their means to afford it. For them buying a 2nd hand Mondeo is a burden on their income.
Someone who runs a successful business and generates a healthy turnover can buy the Ferrari and not bat an eyelid.

Stadium bans, numerous fines, attacked Wenger about being a 'specialist in failure' & a public attack on his players. He was doing a good job being a knob, back in his second Chelsea stint. This reaction to Klopp is trivial in comparison.

But it's not about affordability. It's about value for money.

Which is more excessive, paying a Ferrari price for a BMW or a Mondeo price for a Mondeo. Just because you can afford the Ferrari doesn't mean it's a good investment.

Didn't Koeman's prolonged contract negotiations include, that Everton could not buy any Southampton player during the summer window? Therefore, Van Dijk would be off limits. Kone was superb for Sunderland & a good buy, who else is out there, £15m for Jonny Evans?

It was rumoured to be in the agreement for Steve Walsh, not Koeman.

No idea how true it is.

£18m is too much but on the fees that are currently being paid, it's not as bad.

Impressed me when we played Sunderland, so happy to sign him. Bolasie is the one I'm not comfortable with

Agree, he's scores the odd wonder goal & then goes missing, not prolific at all & his direct comparison is probably Sadio Mane, who's stats are massively superior. Just another point for Everton, Lamine Kone & Bolasie will probably both make the ACON's in 2017, so both away for six weeks.

Id certainly argue the case that Pogba at £89m is less excessive than Stones for £47.5m or Bolasie for up to £30m.

I wouldn't, one a key part of a three time title winning side and was young player of the most recent WC, whilst Stones had a good season then faded last season and Bolasie is ridiculously overpriced for a 27 year old who's done barely nothing of note.

All three are overpriced but for £90mil I want a player who is going to score 40+ goals in a season not a good potentiall very good midfielder, a lot of the positives said of Pogba are that he was part of team that did well.

Stones I would argue is the most overpriced player of the three, in the premier league I would at least want a defender capable of actually defending instead of one who looks good on the ball when he isn't giving it away needlessly.

Juventus win Seria regardless of who's in the side nowadays. He's not even been their main guy since he was there, Interesting you reference a 2 year old World Cup but not a 2 month old European Championship where he didn't show up for his country and was carried by Moussa Sissoko.

If you spend that kind of money id want better then what you've bought angel  You've overspent by about 30m if not more. Id be trying to prize Ronaldo/Griezmann for the money you've forked out tbh.

Think Pogba is exactly what United have been needing for years now, pace power and drive from midfield, and at least this time they aren't trying to plug in a clearly past his best Schweinsteiger to do it. And hes 23 so only approaching his prime.

That said, the price tag does come with a large amount of pressure, especially for a player who didn't exactly shine under a lot of it in the summer for various reasons. Not sure hes in the top bracket of players yet, which is what I'd be spending that kind of money on at minimum.

Ronaldo? An absolute great but £89m for an injured 31 year old?
At the European Championship it was obvious Pogba was played out of position and as a result France suffered, only seems to be Pogba as well that comes away from the tournament with this scorn when others like Lewandowski and Muller were far more anonymous for their countries yet were played in chosen positions.
Griezmann I'd have no qualms whatsoever of spunking £90m at Atletico Madrid, I'd be surprised if there wasn't a club that tried this summer either but he's not for moving.

Id rather waste it on someone who is one of the 3 worlds best players then someone who has potential to be. PS it doesn't matter his injured i imagine once fit again he'll still be better.

He played in central midfield surely that's where he's going to play for United no? You don't need another AM.

Antoine Griezmann has an £85m release clause.

He's not defensively suspect and can do that role but it's not playing to his strengths, he was shackled to a role similar to how LVG shackled Utd players last season.
Anyway shouldn't you be more concerned that with just a few days until the season starts and you've bought virtually no one and are currently linked with Johnny Evans.

Anyone who thinks Pogba is anything but a great signing for United is deluded.

Yes his price tag was big but you have to ignore that. He was exactly what United need and United are only going to be much better for having him. They are paying for potential but even if he didn't get better he is a big piece of the jigsaw for them. Reality is that he will get better.

With him, Ibra and Mkhitaryan is great business.

Not even slightly worried at all Ok! Wouldn't be opposed to him as a back up either. I found it odd that you sold him to WBA when he was one of your better defenders that season.

As an Arsenal fan you expect nothing from Arsene that way you can never be disappointed when he buys someone like Rob Holding (Who incidental looks quite decent some good potential maybe we can sell him to United for £90m) Laugh

But Koscielny/Evans > Smalling/Bailly

There is, however, no point talking about Manchester United and value. What they spend doesnt matter. They are a business now, they have embraced this trend in a way that has benefited their monetary value and, some may suggest, devalued them as a football club in ways you cant put money on.

Koscielny's an excellent defender, can't argue on that point and as you said Bailly is somewhat of an unknown quantity in the Premier League (though I was aware of him appearing in Young Teams of the Year in La Liga last season so not completely off my radar), Smalling though for me is superior to Evans, one of the big pluses of the LVG managerial reign is how he improved Mike.

Wenger is a snob, he won't be seen purchasing from WBA, even though Evans would walk into that back line. Absolutely nothing wrong with Evans, he's not absolute class, but he's reliable, experienced & won PL titles. They will end up with Mustafi though
