French Open Day 9: Raining on Djoko's Parade, Busting Agut To Play, Will it Thiem Down All Day?

Prospects for play today are pretty poor. There may be one or two drier slots in the day for short periods but I can't see a great deal (if any) of the matches being completed today. Tomorrow is marginally better but again a forecast which is dominated by rain.

Thats a decent effort in absence of the pun-stable (eugh!)

Perhaps a dry slot coming up in about half an hour so some play may get underway by around 11.45 GMT.

It must be very frustrating for the players, waiting, not knowing when they will get on court, not knowing when to go for a meal, trying to keep the muscles loose ... and if they get on court not knowing how long they will be on the court before the rain comes down again, playing in damp and drizzly conditions.

Well that is a surprise. Just three hours into the day's play and, according to ITV4, play has been abandond dor the day - a washout. Seems a tad premature to me.

So probably rest of R4 tomorrow, all QFs Wed and SF Friday?

Rain does not seem likely to stop. I do not think tomorrow will be any better unfortunately... Time for ITF/ATP to put some real pressure on the local council to allow the FFT to go ahead with their plans to have a covered central court... Or move it to June or Spain ... Been a couple of years now that we have loads of rain (whereas when I was a kid I barely remember any clouds spoiling RG).

Unlike Wimbledon the French Open adds in two additional days to the schedule: Starts on Sunday & play on the middle Sunday.  Djokovic actually offered a great suggestion after his match with Bedene that could be ready for next year:  add overhead lighting so play can be extended into the late evening when there is good weather.

It is a good point made by Djokovic (which he also made in 2013 I think). Am not sure there is an explanation for not having overhead lighting expect that this was included in the new covered court project (which is now delayed to 2020+) or that locals might not like the idea of having night sessions near their quiet homes (that said it cannot be worst than local Parc des Princes football games).

Yes, there'll be play - but the forecast is very flaky as there are big showers and longer spells of rain forecasted within 50 miles, plus light rain all day

Depends who's prioritised. If Novak's up first, then fine - but it would be very easy for a long match getting played second to end up going into Wednesday

I'd be very surprised if Andy's game even starts, never mind finishes. They won't move that to an outside court and it can't take precedent over the earlier ties, i.e. a late one - likely to be delayed

Novak is up first on Phillipe Chatrier tomorrow so his mstch should finish. Murray's match is due on court not before 2pm (local time) after a woman's singles match. I would be surprised too if his match even starts but the rain that is forecast is as spots of rain (quoted from Accuweather) which is rain thst can be played through so who knows?

Novak has been screwed more often by the French and their abuse of him through scheduling, again after last year the same thing. Frankly the French open is risking its status as the third slam at this point. No lights, no roof in the immediate future, the worst and most insensitive scheduling of the four majors, and the second biggest set of ahole fans this side of New York. The AO, without their sense of importance and its player and fan friendly outlook is the best run slam. New York is getting a roof and they canned stupid Saturday. Wimbeldon well it's just Wimbeldon and that is enough. Yes, it's a slam but it is being badly mismanaged. I mean the RG people act as if they run the goddam ECB instead of a tournament that is there to serve the interests of the fans and do something anything to improve this tournament.

If things pan out like looks likely it wont inconvenience him to any great extent compared to the others. His match will likely get finished tomorrow as his is first match on and so will the other matches in his half. The lower half of the draw (at QF stage) scheduled later on tomorrow is unlikely to get on court and be held over until Wednesday. So Novak will play on back-to-back days on Thursday and Friday (as will his potential semi-opponent). Murray and his half will likely play back-to-back dats on Wednesday and Thursday.

It is shltty that they have no roof. The AO is certainly the best slam for me too.

Tomorrow's play will not be completed. I'd be gobsmacked if it was. I see both Andy and Stan's matches carrying forward to Wednesday.
