Derry Matthews

surprised this hasn't been mentioned but SSN are reporting that he'll replace Crolla on the show in Liverpool with the world title still on the line.

I know he's a marmite figure around here but I'll be backing him, doubt he'll win but you never know.

I quite like Derry, the ultimate test at domestic level but unfortunately that is his level so fear Abril will have a field day.

Think Matthews probably loses a decision without being disgraced. I don't rate Abril as highly as others - felt sorry for him against Rios, but I didn't think he looked all that great against Tatli in his last fight and a lot of his fights make for pretty turgid viewing. Expect Matthews to take a few rounds on just his bluster and work rate alone but can see it ending up in the 116-112, 117-111 region in Abril's favour.

I'm not sure how much Derry has left. Stephen Ormond blitzed Derry 12 months ago and he looked like he was getting old. He's picked up a couple of wins last year but I think he will get found out pretty badly if this fight happens.

Maybe this will be one of the PPV's it is for a title after all.

Just a shame he's a Frank Warren fighter.

Is he a Warren fighter or is he eligible to fight on anyones bill.

I dont think Mathews will win but Abril is asking to have his pants pulled down coming to the UK to fight. Crolla would probably have jobbed him if he hadnt got his head smashed by a brick.
