The Groves Left Hook? Empty The Groves Left Hook?

Post by shenglong2014 Mon 02 Jun 2014, 3:49 pm

Carl Froch has said that the downfall for Groves was the continued attempts to land his prefight prdicted left hook, and that this left him openfor that sweet right cross that finished the fight. We all enjoyed Georges' mind games and attempts to get under Carls' skin but do we agree with the Cobra, could Georges' own belief in his predictions have cost him a chance to be world champ?

Nah I think it was all misdirection from Groves. Looked to me like he had decided on a 12 round measured strategy and the rest of the stuff was just to mess with Frochs head. He was using the jab well and landing the occasional good right or left hook.

To be fair Groves didn't throw that many left hooks, and the hook- come -jab that he landed in the seventh was the punch of the fight until that point. George's failure to protect his chin with one hand whilst swinging with the other is what cost him, but never the less it was a beautifully timed punch from Froch.

Froch himself said he was looking for the left hook all night and when he was caught it was from an attempted left hook. In the same way George got so much kudos for predicting he would land twice with the right hand in the first fight surely he must take some of the negatives that come with wrongly oredicting and attempting a punch that ultimately was his downfall. Silly really given that a fighter like Froch was always going to be a huge task nevermind putting added pressure. Think Groves ended up getting into his own head!

Groves boxed well for the most part with a sensible strategy. I think it was his performance in the first fight that really upped all the pressure on him because it seems like its against that backdrop that his performance is benchmarked on. I thought he had a good shout to be edging the fight up until the knockout. His jab and boxing at range was better than Frochs, but Froch looked stronger and more dangerous in the exchanges.

Just seen on Sky Sports News that two judges had Froch one round up and another had Groves by three rounds? So really was a fight about what you liked.....

Tough fight to score, so I have no issue with the judges cards.

Froch said himself that Groves left had no real sting on it. Personally, I think Groves wanted to take the attention away from his right, so he said he'd finish him with the left. Groves is going to have to just get on with next training camp. No more mind games, YouTube vids or talk of what he will do. You've been sparked out, time to rebuild

If this is the original Shenglong, then welcome back!

He should take an easy fight before jumping into another title fight. Something to give him another fight with Paddy and iron out some creases. Then, target Abraham. He's shot, really, and the way he holds his hands up and just takes punches should suit Groves. Also, it is makeable, seeing as Abraham is with Sauerland.

If he get's sparked by Abraham, he really is in trouble. Good news is, he has made millions already, so he is set.

Nah Groves wouldnt be near set just yet. I think he got 2.5 million or so I heard from the rematch. Booth gets 25%, Hearn another chunk, the rest of his team get paid and also tax.

Booth hasn't been involved with Groves since the first fight, so not sure where he gets 25% from. Hearn isn't his pormoter and Groves had no promoter before negotiating the rematch. Minus tax he will still be a millionaire. A smart man makes that work. Invests.

Booth won a court case after the split with Groves which allows him 25% of Groves purses until 2015. Hearn obviously will charge a fee for putting the whole show together on Groves behalf. Groves would be doing well to clear a million after all the costs are deducted. Not quite sail into the sunset money just yet if he plans on living a long time.

25% for Booth, 10% for trainer, plus expenses.
45% tax, 11% NI, wont be anywhere near 1m net.

Are you telling me Groves loses that much in deductions?

Why bother?

I don't know how much he pays his trainer, but I thought 10% was standard.

To a point, but Mayweather won't pay 10% of a $32 million purse. I doub't Paddy got 10% of 2.5 million

Why would Hearn get paid? You don't pay promoters, especially those who aren't your own. Hearn makes his through gate, Sky and some of PPV

Froch would be paying Hearn 25% of his purse.

Groves signed with Saurerland in the last couple of weeks.

Thats 91% there!

By your sums Groves is walking away with 225K and Paddy is getting 250K!!

No, because you've only deducted tax from Groves', not Paddy's too.

45% is also only his marginal rate of tax, not his average. Usually safe to say knock off about a third.

That said, with all the various deductions and expenses, GG (if smart) will probably be getting paid into a company allowing him to only pay corporation tax (something like 25%) on his annual profits - feeding as much through the company expense account as possible.

No, because you pay tax on the profit, not the full amount. Sharpen up.
