Not expecting too much activity on this thread but I'll give it a go anyway!
 
Looking forward to the visit of MK Dons to the Weston Homes Community Stadium tonight, expecting a difficult game but could really do with the 3 points. Only been beaten 5 times in our first 17 league games but only 1 win in our last 15 matches leaves us too close to the bottom four for my liking.

I'm tempted to visit on Tuesday in the away end and hope Crawley keep their fate in their own hands

Having said that, your last game is against Preston who will have to win to get promoted, seeing as MK Dons will beat Yeovil at home.

Hope we send Coventry down and you leapfrog Notts County

Have got the feeling you guys blew it not beating Swindon, Preston will be a much tougher prospect. At least it's simple for us, win and we're safe. Was hoping we both stay up but looking increasingly like one of us will go down (at least). All the best for Sunday!

Thanks and apologies for my lack of replies guys, just had a weeks holiday in Turkey so I missed our last two games against Swindon and Preston. Listened to the Swindon game on the internet on Tuesday night, sounded like we played some good football but lacked a bit of composure in front of goal and when we couldn't find a winner I was certain that was it for us. I was in the air during the Preston game, landed at Stansted turned on the phone and couldn't believe that we had won and that other results had gone for us and we were staying up. This is the third consecutive season where we have found safety only by winning our last or penultimate game and this year we've barely been out of then relegation zone, but I guess it only matters where you are at the end of the 46th game.

Murph has been great for us Olly and made a big contribution to our survival. The most crucial signing for us though was South African Bongani Khumalo on loan from Spurs with 10 league games to go. Central defender Khumalo has made 42 international appearances for his country, including playing in the 2010 World Cup finals and his experience at the back helped us earn 18 points in those 10 games. Brilliant for us and our mainly young squad to survive, hopefully the increase in confidence that will surely bring will give us a stress free season next time!
 
Sorry to see Crawley relegated Marky, hope you bounce back with promotion next season.

We had our chances, that's the frustrating part. Also going down on 50 points, which is meant to be the safety mark, that's a little tough to take. Congratulations though. I'm just glad Orient came down with us!

Great win for Col U tonight at Sheffield Utd, our first league win there for 36 years! Our first win of the season as well, looking forward to the visit of leaders Gillingham on Saturday with a little more optimism now!

Fantastic week for us following up our win at Sheffield Utd by beating the league 1 leaders Gillingham on Saturday. Up to 12th in the table and hoping we can stay around there and avoid the stress of battling against relegation like we have for the last 3 seasons!

Well tomorrow its the highlight of a very disappointing season for us so far...A plum fourth round F.A Cup home tie against premiership visitors, the mighty Spurs.

Tickets sold out very quickly so a packed stadium awaits along with the presence of the TV cameras from BT Sport who have chosen to show the game live.

Looking forward to it especially as my son who is a student at Bournemouth University is travelling home to Essex tonight, to come with me to the game tomorrow.

Just hope that Ray Crawford will be fit to play for us...

What do you think of your new manager blue?

Like most Colchester fans Olly, I was pleased when the Chairman had a change of heart and chose a new manager from outside the club. Since John Ward our most recent managers have been internal and inexperienced appointments with a very little degree of success to say the least.

The fans are almost without exception fully behind Kevin Keen, but we all recognize that he has got a near impossible job to keep us up in League 1 this season. Currently we are bottom of the table and 7 points adrift of safety, but when you lose 9 league games on the spin like we did the damage is already done and relegation will almost certainly follow.

Thanks kwini, may the ghost of Brian Lewis be with us indeed...and one or two others from that team as well by now I guess. Didn't realise Brian Lewis was only 55 when he left us.

Only 55, and he was one of the most talented players to come through Fratton Park in those days. But I imagine the toll of a few drinkies and anxiety of being chased by the significant others of dozens of local ladies would have taken a toll.
