Books
I'd like to increase my knowledge of the sport, could you chaps please recommend some boxing books (autobiographies, history etc). If this question has been asked many times over then a link would suffice.
Thanks

Re: Books
If you check in the Human Windmill Boxing Vault there is a reviews section for books with a mountain of recommendations. A lot depends on what you want to know about. I believe Bob Mee has done a general book on the history of the sport and the heavyweights and they would not be a bad starting point as he is an excellent writer and great historian.
P.S. Ignore Dave No Ordinary Joe is abysmally bad.

Re: Books
Sugar Ray Leonard's book is interesting and surprisingly more revealing than I expected. Available for a couple of quid on Amazon.
Finally got a copy of the Sam Langford biography, only just started working through it last night but seems really well written.
The one on Charley Burley and BMR is really interesting depending how far back you want to go.
Ordinary Joe is brilliant, ignore Rowley, he is well known as a wind up artist on here.
Also got the Joe Gans biography to start soon.

Re: Books
Which Gans biography did you get Huw. Have read the Aycock one but have not got the Longest Journey or whatever it is called. The Langford book is brilliant. There is a chance it may be made into a film but is in the very early stages currently. Would make for a good story though so fingers crossed.

Re: Books
Is The Longest Journey, was one of the many boxing books on Amazon that I was holding back from buying as they were too pricey. I then got drunk and went on Amazon (live a crazy on the edge type lifestyle nowadays) and it seemed like a bargain.Rowley wrote:Which Gans biography did you get Huw. Really enjoying the Sam Langford one so far, just the right mix between well researched and well written. Never realised he was 2lb's off being the lightweight champion..

Re: Books
Is Hugh Jackman going to play the lead or perhaps Danny Dyer as he's a bonafide hard man.
Of course...a thread about who would play boxers in movies!!!!!!!!

Re: Books
Sam Rockwell is playing Billy Miske apparently. Should be worth watching Miske's story is made for filming.
