Klitschko vs Povetkin : Is a shock on the cards? - Page 2 Empty Klitschko vs Povetkin : Is a shock on the cards?

Post by Union Cane Mon 30 Sep 2013, 3:04 pm

First topic message reminder :

I'm surprised that there isn't more excitement around this, after all it is the biggest and some would say most competitive heavyweight title fight in years.

Ordinarily I would say Wlad walks it; carries Povetkin to the second half then dispatches him for KO number 52.

However, I have an inkling that this could be different.

Povetkin's management have paid a hell of a lot to put this fight on in Moscow. Wlad is the away fighter for once, and no doubt there will be several types of shenanigan going on to try to unsettle the champ beforehand.

There are alleged links between Povetkin's backers and the Russian Mafiya. Are judges Gimla, Feldman and Verbeke beyond their influence? There have been some crazy scorecards handed in recently, so who knows. "But surely it won't go to the cards" I hear you cry.

Well, Wlad is not an inside fighter, we all know this. Will referee Luis Pabon take a dimmer than usual view of any holding by the champion? Warnings perhaps? Docked points? Will they try all they can to rattle Wlad and throw him off his stride?

It is all conjecture of course, but they surely haven't put up $23,000,000 to see their boy get pancaked.

I could be totally wrong, but I feel Wlad will need a knockout to get a draw.

Is he that limited? He has one of the best jabs in HW history and has some of the best footwork in HW history, not to mention his defence is superb and he also has a great right hand and has knocked out 52 opponents.

The HW diviion might not be packed full of talent but I believe Wlad has great boxing talent.

I dont think he has some of the best jab or footwork in heavyweight history. He looks good because he is in with some awful rubbish heavyweights. His whole approach is one dimensional, predictable and limited to utilising a jab and a one,two combination if hes feeling especially racey. If you put him in with some of the more talented heavyweights around in the 80s and 90s I think his limitations get exposed and he looks like a fish out of water. He has sound fundamentals, he perseveres and he is professional about his career but there isnt a whole lot to him and absolutely nothing to 99% of his opponents.

All comes down to personal opinion. The way he moved his feet to get out of range of david Haye's attacks highlighted how good his footwork is. When his fights were on HBO the American commentators used to praise his footwork as well. His defence is also great because no fighter can get through it.

His jab is one of the best in the business, the speed and power behind the jab makes it uch a great weapon.

Who knows how Wlad would do against the 80's Hw's, he is not a boxer in the 80's he has been a boxer of the 90's,00's and 10's and thats all that matters.

What it seems like is that you dislike Wlad and are therefore labelling him incorrectly as a limited fighter. His technique is what makes him stand out from the rest.

If a fighter is completely predictable and relies on a gameplan involving a jab and a right cross Im happy to call him limited.

He does throw the left hook as well, I did post a video of it.

But even if he jut threw a jab and nothing else but that just throwing the jab was working for him then why should he change? I don't think it is a matter of being limited I think it is more a matter of if it ain't broke don't fix it.

He has no reason to change while heavyweights are this poor. I just dont think hes a great fighter. Hes better than the other heavyweights but if you were ask me if he was one of the best fighters in the world at the moment in terms of talent and not head to head then no I dont think hes anywhere near it. There are much more talented fighters competing in much more talented divisions. I dont know how anyone could think Klitschko is a more talented fighter than Pacquaio or Donaire or Rigondeaux. He is the best heavyweight in rubbish division so it doesnt count for all the much when you consider the types of opponents he fights on a regular basis.

But this goes back to the original point that was made which was rigondeaux and pacquio look better fighters because they are smaller and lighter and faster so they can bob and weave and throw 8 punch combos whilst klitschko who is 6ft 7 and 250 lbs physically cannot.

Watch videos, especially training vids, of Rigo. THAT is great footwork, some of the greatest ever. Wlad's is very good for someone of his size, he has tremendous athleticism, but you're making him sound like a 6'6" Pea with all this eulogising!

Also, to suggest he has greater punch variety than Lewis, and that Lewis was slow in comparison, shows how little you know what you're talking about.

Ok every other boxer apart from Wlad just looks more talented because they are smaller. Its a pity Mayweather didnt have boxers of the calibre of Povetkin, Haye and Byrd around to really test him.

Vitali is a four time Kickboxing champ as well, at his peak, with 4lbs gloves, I'd give him a decent shout vs Cain, and Jon

The HW champ in boxing is always thought of as the hardest man alive. In reality he isn't even in the top 100.

MMA despite being pretty bloody awful to watch are better fighters.

Mike Tyson once knocked out multiple black belt Wesley snipes, and he had a decent set of teeth too, wouldn't bet against him either.

With a career threatening injury, only a fool would carry on so early in his career when he had plenty of time to rebuild. It's for this reason Harrison carried on, had he lost he would have had no where to go but becoming a punch bag for up and comers.

Yeah, he's riding high now, isn't he! The fact he is now a punch back in Europe I find really sad. A smart boxer knows when to fight another day. Add in a smart business man and he has a future.

Yeah, he's riding high now, isn't he! The fact he is now a punch back in Europe I find really sad. A smart boxer knows when to fight another day. Add in a smart business man and he has a future.
So I take it that ortiz was being smart when he quit against Maidana.

I see your comment has spurred the thread onto bigger and better things, rowley. By the way, my dad is bigger than your dad, and owns him 24/7, and twice on Sundays.

That's only becasue my dad would be too busy doing your mum to pay attention to whatever your dad's doing.

Povetkin looks like a roly poly white slob with zero skill.........and he's the best opponent out there.......

Bruno ko 2 Povetkin................For me which says it all about the Klits and their reigns......

If Tony Thompson terrified Wladimir, don't expect me to believe Fury wouldn't. He'd be even cagier than usual.

Right with you there. "Povetkin's the best I've faced". Says it all.

It would be up there with Buster Douglas beating Tyson.

Povetkin struggling with Huck showed me all I needed to know.

Why are the Russian's shelling out so much money for this???
