Music Cup Round 9 - Songs from 80s films

We're going back to the 80s for one more torturous look at the music from the films of that era. Oddly, I consider the submissions make it a fairly strong round and there are only a couple of horrendous selections.

Hero extended his lead at the top to 10 points, and with two rounds to go he just needs to keep his head and make sound selections.

As always, vote for your TWO favourite tracks on this list, and maybe leave a comment saying why, or just take a dig at Galted, Oasis or The Stone Roses. (Rowley may ban you for the latter)

The next, and final round is a bit of a strange one. It's a struggle for me to think of category ideas sometimes, so if you think the ones I choose are bad you should see the ones I discard. Anyway, this one will be based on elements. But not just any elements - we're talking Aristotle's elements:

I didn't even know there was a round 9.  I thought that was it.  I'll skip this one, I don't watch films.

Not a particularly great bunch for me. Paint it Black is the stand out. After that was really struggling so went with Echo and the Bunnymen, by no means one of their better songs but I am a fan of the band so they got my vote.

As I've never watched the films, I don't know many of the songs. I sound like a right sad old

First if I didn't PM you

Went for Heroes and People Are Strange.

Heroes is one of the greatest songs ever written, a beautifully brilliant record. Love the song People Are Strange as well, a great cover of a great record. Plus it was my 2nd choice when nominating.

I went for People are Strange and Huey Lewis.
 
Not because these two are the best songs on that list but because the songs I prefer, I dont personally feel are "synominous with films.
 
For example Paint it Black - great song but I dont think of a particular film (oddly I think of Tour of Duty on TV).
 
Whereas people are strange - the Lost Boys instantly. The same with Eye of the Tiger and You're the Best Around from the Karate Kid.

I instantly think of Full Metal Jacket with Paint it Black tbh.

This has been one of the strongest rounds for me (especially as I love 80s films/ soundtracks!)

I just thought of a song that I should have picked - (together in) Electric Dreams

Worringly my second choice in the next round has got 0 votes in this round, I hope I get my 1st pick!

Eye of the tiger and Paint it Black.

I'll only tolerate In the Air Tonight if a gorilla is replacing Collins (AKA he who ruined Genesis AND Disney's run of brilliant music in their movies in the 90s) on the drums or if the song is made marginally less mind-numbingly slow (fine in many songs but not a pseudo rock/pop song) by being this remix:

Electric Dreams is a decent film and a good song Adam. Good old Edgar!!

That film had Maxwell Caulfield in, I recall, who had a turn opposite Michelle Pfeiffer in that cinematic classic Grease 2.

Well, it would have been difficult to make it 1314 rounds so you could have a chance of catching up.

You could show a bit of compassion being the tournament organiser, it's a bit like the FA ridiculing the 1st round losers when they hand over the FA cup.

Anyway,I bought myself a couple of those Now That's What I Call Music albums so had at least the next 30 rounds covered.

It's not easy choosing a song that you know no-one is going to vote for in every round. There's always a chance someone will ruin it.

No, that's a different film from later on in the 80's. Around 87/88 I think. The one with the gun toting grandmother out for revenge!

I've chosen songs I thought people would vote for & have a total of 4 votes now over the completed rounds.

It feels weird to be doing well in a round for a change.

surprised no-one picked my second choice for this round as it has to be one of the most recognisable songs from a film .

Eye of the Tiger and Magic Dance for me. But massively disappointed no-one went for the Rocky theme

what i can say is that in my 80's styled Zumba class i am known as Kenny Leggin's

And in your job as an insulation specialist they call you Kenny Laggin's

The next round is my favourite already. I prefer having to have a certain type of word in the title than going for a genre or decade etc. Pretty imaginative too, not just 'colours' or 'shapes' or whatever, it should produce some interesting nominations.

Am hoping someone goes for the Crazy World of Arthur Brown - Fire.

What about Wade in the Water by Ian and the Zodiacs Julius, would be fairly confident that will not secure a vote.
