Flops that buried good careers!!

Some guys like Arnie managed to come back from garbage like The last action hero........However some actors find their careers destroyed by big box office failures....

Orlando Bloom, while never a well-respected actor was still a big box-office draw staring in the Lord of the Rings and Pirates franchise, but Kingdom of Heaven seems to have killed his career as a leading man.

Has Travolta done anything since Battlefield Earth?

Hairspray is probably the only thing he's done in which he received any praise.

Weird as Travolta had a resurgence, with Pulp Fiction etc. only to pretty much kill his own career stone dead.

It wasn't a flop but Star Wars seemed to kill everybody's career not named Harrison Ford

I suppose natalie portman and james earl jones are about the only other two who appeared in anything worthwhile.

Also Jar Jar Binks one man adaptation of Hamlet was pretty special.

Kingdom of Heaven wasn't really a flop for me, it performed poorly in America/Canada but well everywhere else. It pulled in £70m more than its budget which is more than a lot of films can say. Plus the Director's Cut should have been the finished film as it makes for a far better experience.

The biggest problem to Orlando Bloom's career is Orlando Bloom and his inability to pick decent scripts/movies.

Can't really say Travolta's career has suffered either for Battlefield Earth (BE) while its correct to say Hairspray is the only thing with critical acclaim since Pulp Fiction he's still bringing home the money in films. In his 17 films since BE only 5 have been box office failures and even a few of those were low budget stuff limited release stuff.

To carry on the Star Wars theme, Jake Lloyd must have a shout for a career killed by the franchise.

I'd put Eddie Murphy out there and "Nutty Professor II" as his downfall, granted there has been voice over work for Shrek but as an actor his career pretty much died with that film.

Warwick Davies was probably the biggest success story from the Star Wars actors sets after Harrison Ford!

Apart from the Die Hard films The Last Boy Scout didn't help Bruce Willis did it

If I was gonna say any film looked like tanking Willis career it would have been a film from the same year Hudson Hawk. Though Bruce has managed to keep his career going even without the additional Die Hards and made some decent movies.

I think Bruce Willis' career has gone pretty well, of course he's had a few bad films but he's not fallen to obscurity at all.

John Travolta is diabolical. If you have to mention Battlefield Earth (Scientology 101) then you know your in trouble.

QT tried to revive his career in Pulp Fiction but unfortunately because he never possessed the ability to act without the right script, director, storyline, film he was always going to be screwed.

Like him or loath him I still couldn't see a case for his career having flopped since Pulp Fiction though.

Daredevil & Gigli killed of Ben Affleck's acting career. At least he can direct...

As Affleck alluded to in his BAFTA acceptance speech, he is enjoying a great second act. It would have been a shame if Affleck had let his relationship with Lopez ruin his career - he'd shown some early promise in films like Dazed and Confused and Good Will Hunting but those films you mention, together with Pearl Harbour, nearly sunk him.

The three films he has directed have all been very good and of all the Hollywood films I saw last year, Argo was probably the best.

Ben Affleck has shown us in the past his ability to act. Imagine if you put the greatest actor in the world in the worst film it would still reflect negatively on that actor.

Do I think he's a better director than actor, yes, but just because of a few bad choices either on his part or his Agents I wouldn't write him off.

Ben Affleck is a name I'd been expecting to see and he's a bit of a funny one where this type of question is concerned. Where other in this list have made film choices outta the hope they would be good that have turned into flops Affleck just didn't care.

He said many a year ago that his interest was never the quality of the script or the promise of the film but rather how much money he was getting paid. Affleck was all about the money didn't matter how bad the film looked if the money was good he was there. On a side note its probably why my favourite Affleck film is "Paycheck".

He's rather something of an enigma, I certainly am struggling to think of another actor who has followed the same path.
