Aparently now that ENG are not #1, the rankings are meaningless.

Alec Stewart is not actually the first. I posted something very similar to his comments recently when we were still at number one spot (admittedly, the position was precarious then).

For me, each Test series has an importance in its own right. Besides the result, I leave it for history to debate and judge its significance. I regard current world rankings as little more than cricket for accountants.

You don't need rankings to prove who the best team is at the moment. And it's not Eng, India or AUS.....

And look at the footie rankings. England 3rd. They couldn't even break into the top 4 in the Euros....they are probably around 8-10th.

I'm an an England fan and I still take the rankings seriously.... SA are rightly number one!

There is SA...then there is a bit of daylight.....then there is a cluster containing of Aus, Eng, Ind and Pak......all close to each otehr...on their day, in their back-yards and conditions....very close to each other.

On the plus side we can laugh at AWOPs lot for both their ranking and their results.
