First topic message reminder :

Day 5 is just about to kick off with Spain and Australia in the men's hockey - the Aussies are called the Kookaburras.

I think today is the start of the gold rush, chances in rowing and most importantly.......

ALLEZ WIGGO! You're indestructible!

He would have broken the old record as well. Excellent swim from Jamieson, I don't think he can be disappointed with that at all.

Well swum Daniel Gyurta. If Jamieson had to lose, at least he lost to a world record.

The official name of the team is Team Great Britain. Athletes from Northern Ireland are allowed to choose whether they want to compete for GB or the Republic of Ireland, so it's not actually GB & NI.

We can choose yes, and in fact in many case the decision is made by the governing body, for example all Irish boxers represent Team Ireland and can't represent GB. But the official team name is GB & NI. Wish it was called Team UK though.

I just dont get it. If someone from Northern Ireland represents GBR then they should be recognised as GBR athletes, not Northern Irish. Its not done with the Welsh, Scottish etc.

Yeah, think that's a different discussion though. Surely it's the same as calling someone Londoner or a Yorkshireman? It's not as thought they're being announced officially as from Northern Ireland.

I know they've got to be careful these days with all the complaining, but Andy Murray is often described as being Scottish, because that's what he is.

Believe me, on our local news programme, the athletes winning medals from our area are not Team GB or even English. They're Yorkshire (and locales just outside if we can squeeze them in and claim them for our own) Smile

Cracking effort from Jamieson, oh so close to a Gold but he'll certainly take silver. And it took a WR swim to beat him. Lowe and Willis both started well but faded at the end. And it's 0-0 in the football at the moment.

Good to hear there was a good rendition of God Save the Queen at the football and no booing in the Millennium Stadium. Hope everyone sang the anthem!

Seems like the togetherness is working so far.

Scrappy, messy fight but Luke Campbell of GB is through to the bantamweight quarter-finals courtesy of a 11-9 victory over Parrinello of Italy. clap Anthony Joshua of GB is on at around 23:15 in the super-heavyweight division.

Shocking decision in the boxing. Makes me worried about this given how the referee and judges essentially made sure the Azerbaijani guy won the fight.
