Re: Olympics Day 3
Why didn't we appeal?
That 'arse landing' was part of the routine...I thought it should have got 10's across the board!

Isn't 2x an oar in each hand, and 2- two hands on one oar? I always forget.

Re: Olympics Day 3
2x is a sculling boat, or "double"
2+ is a "pair" where each rower has only 1 oar.
I imagine it was the double, because they are great!
Sorry, this seems a little pompous...
But I'll finish anyway, a boat is written down as the number of rowers in it (e.g. 1, 2, 4, 8), then whether it is a scull (x), a coxed rowing boat (+) or a coxless rowing boat (-)
So the quad is 4x, the coxed four is 4+ and the famous coxless four is 4-

Re: Olympics Day 3
Record was broken in the womens double sculls 2x.
Looked like their was plenty more in the tank aswell and on that performance the gold is Grainger & Watkins to lose I think.
Mens four through to semi's and the mens 8 showed much more promise in the repechage which they won so their into Wednesday's final.
I believe that's all of them safely through to the Semi/Final's now...unless i've missed someone going out?
Think we have a very good chance of 6+ medals from the rowing. Fingers crossed...
Couple of disappointments so far in the opening 3 days but on the whole it has been a decent enough start to the games...3 medals on the board and lots to look forward too!!
Come on TEAM GB!!

Re: Olympics Day 3
In the rowing, the women's 2x should get a medal (gold, I hope), men's 2x look back to their best, a medal at least, men's 2- also looked good. One of them (Nash) went out with a (admittedly not that close) friend. Men's 8 have a chance, 4- and 4x looked good in the heats, so I'm hopeful. I'll watch the highlights

Let's hope for some magic in the swimming tonight, I reckon there's a couple up for grabs. Once rowing finals are in full flow we will fly up the table. Loving it.

Yeah, we have to remember that the medals for our strong events haven't come in yet. Hard to believe before Sydney we were in the doldrums.

Re: Olympics Day 3
I would say that we should be extremely upbeat at this stage. Looking good in the Dressage, Hockey, Rowing, for the coming days. The sailing is a little bit up and down but long way to go.
Of those who have competed so far I would say around 90% have done what was expected of them.
In terms of genuine genuine medal chances it's only Cavendish who has missed out.
Adlington's bronze was a 'hoped' rather than expected medal. The Silver for Armitstead probably got what was expected and then the lads gymnastic team performed way above expectations this evening.
Not expecting anymore medals this evening..but again the likes of Renwick & Spofforth have done well, finals are a great result for the pair of them...she just tied up their at the end which was a shame.

I would like to say this. The support that the GB athletes are getting is absolutely superb. A real credit to GB. Up there with the Aussies in 2000

Armistead's silver wasn't anything like a cert either, the road race, as we saw in the men's, can see so much happen, think we can be very happy with it indeed with a lot of good cyclists on the road

Its just at every event the noise has been amazing. I am sure it boosts on the GB athletes but they are also cheering everyone on. Superb public support for everyone. That alone is why the Olympics will be a huge success in GB.

For sure. And, I'd say these Games may not be about how many medals we win, but for its legacy. We are going to have so many new national teams who now have a springboard to be good. Inspire a generation for sure.

Re: Olympics Day 3
Was ti the men's gymnasts who came 2nd? I thought they were very good the other day congrats to them and team GB. It's not as bad as the BBC make you think!
Felt for Evans today in the badminton gave it all he got but lost to the best player in the world. Our sailors seem to be motoring along well despite the controversy, fingers crossed for medal. Just remember when you Brits are cribbbing you only pick up 60 odd medal, your neighbours are lucky to get 3! Just remember and keep it up team GB!
Billy, your a Clog so don't understand our pain

Wow...pure class and really genuine interview their Mr Tancock.
Loved him talking about how much he loves what he does, this is why I love the Olympics. Full of people who get up at 4 am every morning...move themselves all over the world and make endless sacrifices...and all for nothing more than the glory of competing in & the chance of medalling at an Olympic games.
I'm just so glad that everyone is embracing it so far and the support is their. As someone said not just for Team GB but all around.

Brilliant by the DJ/announcer then playing 'sit down' as an Argentinian is sent to the dugout for a foul!!
They (the announcers) have been great at rousing the crowds...during the volleyball, Hockey, Football. for them!!
Sod it... for everyone, including all you little cretins on the thread!!
