First topic message reminder :

Youth scouting

You are the scouting team for Everton and the Ginger Messiah has asked you to identify some up and coming players that may have slipped under the radar of the bigger clubs. He has asked that you provide a report which shortlists 6 players you would recommend to Everton, and then a recommendation of which 3 the club should buy. £15m has been set aside for these purchases.

Moyes would like to point out that Everton are not a rich club who can get £15m easily, so good value players who could quickly challenge for the first team would be looked upon favourably, especially those that could quickly solve some of Everton’s main problem areas.

Please submit your report by 3pm on Friday 20th July

Rhodes
Hoilett
Ocampos
Clyne
Naughton

....as our six recommendations. I guess we should all be allocated one or two to write about why they are recommended, and then the final report will suggest the ones we choose?

One thing to note is that Clyne just moved to Southampton I believe - that may mean we have to find another target because it's unrealistic he'll be on the move again!

I feel I need to add this to both teams...

For me the key to this task is the slipped under the radar of bigger clubs. Everton are not the kind of club to be able to compete with the top clubs, so would be looking for less well known players.

Pushing for the first team quickly to me means not in 5 years time, but in 1 or 2 years. At Everton for example, a CM is going to need to be a lot better to push for first team that a RB would need to be as the CM is a lot stronger.

Ultimately, my interpretation is improving the first team in 2 years time and not very well known at all so that Everton are likely to be able to compete

So I've been having a look this afternoon and I have a few more:

Alexandre Lacazette (Lyon) - £5.3m
Mostly a winger on either side but can play in a strikers role.

Luis Muriel (Udinese) - £7m
Out and out striker who scored 7 goals on loan at Lecce last season. Capped once by Columbia.

Loic Nego (Roma) - £225k
Signed after impressing at right back for Nantes but yet to make a breakthrough into the squad. Played for France up to the U-20 level and very cheap!

Thomas Ince - Winger (£650k)

Been impressing at Blackpool this year and I think he looks a very good player. Had played at Liverpool but that shouldn't be an issue.

I'd take Naughton he is good enough to challenge for the first team place at Everton like Afro wanted, we know he is proven and the price ain't too bad.

Lazar Markovic (SS/AM) £4.4M

Currently at Partizan but capped by the Serbia national side at 18, and won a nomination to the Serbian league team of the year last year. Reckon he could be worth a gamble and could work alongside Jelavic.

I think he would - but I also think he may be seen as having 'bigger fish to fry' in that he may be stalked by a top club that would blow Everton out of the water.

He'd be a good signing too - but is he likely to be similar to Jelavic?

The idea behind Markovic was that he was a more withdraw forward to support Jelavic rather than be making the same runs as him.

Well personally speaking I like Thomas Ince.

I don't think we have to spend all the cash so it's saving a bit of money for them too!

One final opinion I'd like to get across though - it's not that Rhodes is a bad buy or we shouldn't go for him, but I do think in context of the task he wouldn't be pushing beyond Jelavic to start because they are similar goal-getting types. I'd still prefer a deeper lying player, and considering Everton seem to favour a 4-5-1 I think they'd have more chance getting in the side.
