Wrestling superstar Kurt Angle was arrested early this morning in North Dakota ... TMZ has learned.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... highway patrol in Grand Forks found Angle sitting in his car in the median separating lanes. We're told Angle told cops he had hit an icy patch in the road. During the conversation, cops say they smelled alcohol on Angle's breath. He failed a field sobriety test and was arrested.

Since cops didn't see Angle driving, he was arrested and later charged with being in control of a motor vehicle while intoxicated -- which basically means he was allegedly drunk behind the wheel but not actually driving.

Kurt's just annoyed because Jeff Hardy took his title of 'Whacked Out Space Cadet Who's Most Likely Heading For An Early Grave' so he's just showing everybody he's got what it takes to get back to the top of the screw-up mountain.

As someone who rates tna highly Hobo even you must be concerned to what is going on there of late.

I'm amazed that we still hear all these stories of wrestlers being pulled over for driving under the influence or whatever and they don't get any punishment whatsoever from their employers.

It's not like we're still living in the good ol' days when wrestlers got up to God knows what and no-one heard about it. In this day and age, fans have more access than ever to what shenanigans wrestlers get up to but have you ever heard of someone being fined/suspended or even reprimanded for their misdemeanours?

You'd think that these multi-million dollar international companies would want to show their fans/customers/sponsors or whatever that they can control their employees but nothing seems to be getting done about it. I mean in WWE the only punishments you hear about are Wellness policy suspensions (fair enough) or Wrestler A being forced to job for a month because he wouldn't give so & so a bite out of his sandwich. And in TNA there doesn't seem to be any punishment system in place whatsoever, unless you count the Motor City Machine Guns having to job for a while after they refused to blade (if Ric Flair was dead he'd be spinning in his grave).

I just dont get why these guys dont just hire drivers

flair got done when he was in wwe, so its not like tna are the only ones who dont punish the talent.

Angle is the greatest wrestler to appear in any organisation ever. And i know thats some claim but its true. Damn true.

Its a shame he is a physical and mental wreck and i can only really say that tna are responsible for putting him in such a ludicrous storyline.

I love tna, for all its faults, but they need to take care of angle. Yes he is a broken down man with a reliance on 'help' but they always new that. The difference between him and jeff is that he always performed, even to his detriment.

Kurt, I hope you get better soon and dont end up another statistic.

Kurt Angle arrested on a TUI (Tweeting Under the Influence) charge.

As he was lead away in cuffs, Angle had a distinct smell of alcohol around him and he was heard to say "At leasht I didn't call nobody a f****t!"

TNA officals were unavailable for comment, but they did wheel out Ric Flair to make a statement. Before issuing the statement, Flair fumbled around in his jacket pockets, obviously having lost something. He was heard muttering to himself "Wooo! Where's my blade? Wooo! Must have left it inside! Wooo!"

He then started punching himself until he began to bleed.
