Willie Ripia resigns in disgrace from Western Force

From here; Western Force fly-half Willy Ripia has quit the Western Force after allegedly being caught on CCTV stealing from his teammates.

Taranaki born Ripia played for Taranaki, the Hurricanes, NZ Maori, NZ U19 and NZ U21s before being recruited by the Force as a "Foreign Development Player" (that's Australian for "Project Player") in late 2010.

Addictions of any kind are such a scourge on humanity, whilst what Ripia has done is unacceptable, he deserves some help to deal with his problems.

Can't seem to open the link, does anyone know what happened? I read a brief story on this but it did not actually state what it was for.

Must of been something fairly extreme to warrant imediate dismissal. Will he get signed up by any other team?

Former Taranaki, Hurricanes and New Zealand Maori first five-eighth Ripia, who has undergone counselling for a gambling problem, was reportedly caught on CCTV taking money from players' wallets and bags at the team's Perth headquarters.

Ripia, 26, offered his resignation yesterday morning when confronted with the footage, Australian media reported.

As much as we can have understanding for players afflicted with addictions like over drinking,however stealing off your team mates just isnt negotiable.

CCTV in changing room is that legal ?

far more legal than stealing out of your teammates wallets.

I'm not sure it's legal to film people in changing rooms without letting them know that there are cameras present.
I'm not defending the thief I was just wondering if it's legal to have them in a area that Innocent people would more likely than not get naked.

It says in their Perth headquarters, could be that the camera's were outside the changing room and he was seen going in and out at the time the money went missing?

But yeh, camera's in changing rooms without the players knowledge would be rather alarming in itself.

The article states:

"Players had complained to management previously about losing money and while Ripia had been suspected of taking cash, he had denied any involvement"

So maybe they set up cameras later specifically to catch him rather than the cameras being set up all the time.
