Pooly

What's the story with 6 Nations call ups and injuries for this season once we get started after friendlies. Am just trying to work out squad make up to cover all eventualities.

I think the plan is to do half a season of prem fixtures this season with a made up caup in place of LV and HC games, then to fall in line completely with all competitions from next season.

It may be worth thinking about letting the relegated manager decide how many he keeps as it doesn't seem fair to have a side get relegated than have his players replaced by potentially worse ones. The Championship isn't like last year, Leeds are relying on loan players and Bristol would get crucified in the Prem.

At least whilst the game is starting up I'd look at it. A full season and I'd agree with the relegation idea but in a half season it could come down to Home and Away games and where you play the sides around you.

Might want to follow along the lines of what we did this season in the original game and let the relegated side keep there squad but under the promoted teams name. Its very hard to start from fresh again and the relegated side will pretty much lose all their depth if they lose the majority of their squad. Dont want 1 team basically getting relegated this season or even next season and then getting caught in the loop because they've lost the majority of their squad. Wouldnt be much fun to manage to be fair

Really, surely its one of the most obvious selections. For what its worth I think it will be this. Not saying its what I want, but its what I think it will be

Corbs Wood Cole PDJ Stevens
Hartley Gray George
Palmer Lawes Attwood Robson
Robshaw Wood Croft Morgan Easter
Youngs Simpson Dickson
Flood Hodgson Farrell
Barritt Twelvetrees
Tuilagi Trinder
Sharples Ashton Strettle Banahan
Foden Brown

Left some names in there that people will disagree with, but he needs to keep 10 players from WC, hence why Easter, Banahan, Stevens all still there

I'd be unhappy if George was in there personally, a few AP games hardly justifies a tubby 20yo getting involved in the EPS.

Similar with Robson, really lacks the physicality to make it an Int level imo.

Prefer to see other wingers in there over Strettle....May, Ojo, Benjamin.

Pretty good selection and probably not that far away.

I wouldn't be happy with George or Gray in the england shirt. Gray still needs to nail the 2 shirt at Quins.

Robson is a definate for me. Got to be given a chance. If he fails then we know not to go back to him.

Does anyone else think that Croft should probably move to lock?

Croft is a must have in the England set-up with his jumping abilities, but I don't think the he's the best all round 6 England have at their disposal.

In my opinion when Palmer decides to hang up his boots, I think maybe Croft should move to the second row.

I love Croft but his best position is 6, he lacks the grunt for lock I feel.

We either play him at 6 with a big carrying 8 and dog 7 and two grizzly locks or we don't play him and have a lineout lock and whatever backrow best.

Possible combo's

4. Lawes/Garvey
5. Attwood/Deacon
6. Croft
7. Wood/Robshaw(would prefer Robshaw with Croft)
8. Morgan???

Or

4. Lawes/Deacon
5. Parling/Robson
6. Robshaw
7. Wood
8. Morgan

I prefer the second but either could work

For Croft to work England have to play a certain way and he has to have the right players around him. I don't think England currently have the players to do that so I would go 6. Robshaw 7. Wood as my flankers with probably Morgan at 8.

Bit of a gamble as all unproven at international level, but one that I believe could pay dividends.

Everybody fit then I would go with (currently)

4. Deacon
5. Lawes
6. Croft
7. Wood
8. Waldrom

18. Robson
19. Robshaw

For Scotland (taking into account injuries expected to rule players out)

4. Attwood
5. Palmer
6. Croft
7. Wood
8. Waldrom

18. Robson
19. Robshaw

Ideally in one year I'd like to see.

4. Garvey
5. Lawes
6. Croft
7. Wood
8. Morgan

18. Attwood
19. Robshaw/Gibson/Wallace/Kvesic or whoever.

I don't see the logic in wanting players like Garvey and Morgan in a years time but not now. You are selecting them in a years time based on their performances now, so why not just select them now.

For me Thomas the Tank should be nowhere near the England team, as he is a very good Premiership player but not international class, and really is not English, despite what his nan might say!!!

In my own opinion Croft and Wood are both brilliant 6's.

Croft is only 4kg's lighter than Sam Whitelock (According to the RFU and Wikipedia!) I can see a move for Croft to accomodate Wood in the same side.

Not much of a fan of shoe-horning Wood in at 7. I know he covers that position for Northampton, however England need to look at bringing traditional 7's who fetch the ball. The best nations have them, we need one to succeed at international level.

Because I don't think they (Garvey and Morgan) are ready for England now Pete. I think a years development (if they continue or exceed the speed that they are progressing at the moment) then I think they will good options for England.

I don't think we should fill our pack with untried talent at the moment. One or two maybe but I don't want the majority of our pack to be inexperienced. We need to look at the backs when they are behind a decent pack which I think England possess at the moment not to have a look at the likes of Farrell, Trinder, Sharples or whoever we pick behind untested players in the forwards.

For me England need to sort out there backs first and pack second. Our pack is decent and can be adjusted in time but Our backs were a huge problem at the WC, let's sort them out first.

For me that is 100% the wrong way round. our pack is not great. We got bettered by both Scotland and France up front in the World Cup and will struggle against Wales and Ireland as well if we just stick with what we have. We need more dynamism from 1 to 8 to put us on the front foot and give our backs a chance.

I generally don't agree with revolution when it comes to sports teams, as evolution is much better, but we have stood still or gone backwards in the past 8 years, and the only way to change that is to rip up the template and start again.
