Jim fixed it?

The recent talk of fixing in the amateurs got me thinking. Which fights in history would have the the most negative effect on a) boxing in general and b)the fighter's legacy if we now found out they were fixed? Obviously any instances of fight fixing would be a blemish but which fights would be a major black mark against the sport and fighters involved?

It has to be probably the most well known fight ever for me "The rumble" Although Ali's record would still be impressive, no win over Big George would leave a gaping hole in his CV. An older, past it Ali knocking out the unbeatable monster that was George is one of the most iconic moments in sport. If it were found out not to be legit it would seriously undermine the sport and diminish Ali's legacy.

Any other examples of the above?

Hagler - Hearns - Totally destroy Haglers legacy and diminish what is one of the greatest memories of boxing.

Leonard Hagler - ditto for both.

Leonard Duran - one or two - the first would cost Duran a couple places in HOF - the second would condemn Leonard.

Audley vs Haye would totally destroy Audleys legacy.

I reckon about every big name in history has been in a fixed fight.

Maybe Ali-Foreman?

Would love to know the truth about Liston - Ali 1 & 2.
Both are not too subtly rumoured to have been fixed.

The first Ali-Frazier fight. Still by far the most anticipated fight in boxing history, if the result had been known to be fixed, it would have crushed so many people. Anticlimax wouldn't even have begun to cover it.

Tyson/Douglas?

Na, half the world would scream that they knew it at the time. Poor buster would get shellacked, wouldn't harm Tyson's reputation and his fanboys would have yet another excuse as to why he didnt become the overlord of prizefighting.

Tyson transcended more than anyone in the last 25 years...

Might not have been the greatest but was the greatest draw..

I suppose, but both inside and outside boxing he will be remembered as a could have been. If, If,If. Also as a naughty person and ear biter, and for blowing a 300 million dollar fortune.

Not a great legacy to be honest.

On that I agree, boxing has always been viewed with suspicion so anything Tyson did couldn't really damage the sport and the revenues he brought in gave a new lease of life. The only negative thing was the calls to ban the sport got a little more vociferous but thankfully silenced by our beloved baying mob. Holyfield, Lewis etc all benefitted from being in his peripheral, much like Morales, Barerra etc all benefitted from Naz even though he also achieved a shadow of what he was capable of.

Marciano and the Mafia.

Too far back too know if they did fix any/most of the fights, but it they where heavily involved Rocky would get no where near the top 20 ATG Heavies.
