England vs India - third ODI - Page 5 Empty England vs India - third ODI

Post by Mad for Chelsea Fri 9 Sep - 12:47

First topic message reminder :

So here we go again, England have won the toss and decided to bowl first, Cook feeling it isn't easy to defend a score here at the Oval. England make the one change, with Trott coming back into the side for Samit Patel, while India make two changes: Jadeja in for Tiwary to strengthen their bowling, and R.P. Singh for Vinay Kumar.

England team
AN Cook*, C Kieswetter†, IJL Trott, IR Bell, RS Bopara, BA Stokes, TT Bresnan, GP Swann, SCJ Broad, JM Anderson, JW Dernbach

India team
AM Rahane, PA Patel, R Dravid, V Kohli, SK Raina, MS Dhoni*†, RA Jadeja, R Ashwin, P Kumar, MM Patel, RP Singh

Surprised Aaron still not given a go...

How different is this match to the 23 over knock about the other day.

Bith sides far more watchful.

well, plenty of time yet Billy.

Either side can win from here really.

If Eng did manage it and get to a 2 match cushion then they could maybe experiment even more and not worry about a tied series. But they have to do the business here first and that isn't easy.

Evening all, looks like we let them off the hook big time today, what's the pitch like? Is 234 a 'par' score? Only 4.44 RRR so no need to rush which is handy for Trott and Bopara later!

Oh, Kieswetter out!

Hmm, rain.

I was stunned we avoided rain.

Eng should have kept their wickets.

Would have been well ahead instead of a little.

Sky indian guy is sure it's a tiny amount.. Gower less so.

Just when India looked on top, the rain has arrived to save England. This is so frustrating and terrible.
Now with the wet ball and wet outfield, the 2 Indian spinners will find it dificult to grip the ball and sustain the same kind of pressure, and the pace bowling unit is good for nothing for India. PK has been the one bowler to look up to, but it his form is ssuffering at the end of a long and lonely tour.

Seems like a laughable comment after watching their spinners causing problems.

Stokes looks totally out of his depth.

It's effectively his debut, and he has plenty if time to play himself in. As will the rest of England's deep batting line-up. Bookies had England as favs, commentators did, as well as most others with an ability to grasp a bit of perspective, I'm sure.

Not really my friend, Taylor is a wonderful batsman, whereas Stokes is more of a slogger. Don't get how Bopara gets more lives then a cat, yet Taylor was dropped right away

I'm all for giving someone ago, but Stokes is an all rounder and at present he can't bowl. So if its a pure batsman then Taylor should be picked before Stokes.

I'd say it's in the balance. The advantage is that the RR isn't too high so no need for risks to be taken, very tough situation for Stokes to be in but a good chance to see what he can do. India favourites for me purely because we only have Bopara left who is a 'proper' batsman, Bres, Broad etc. can hit a ball but aren't going to see us home from a long way out, balance of the side doesn't feel quite right, Bresnan a place too high at 7 for me. If we can get through 10 overs without losing another wicket we'll be in a decent position.

He wasn't dropped. England rotate their team, especially against weaker nations. He's now been rotated out, as he most likely would have been regardless of how he performed in Ireland, bar a monsterous innings. England clearly see Stokes as the big hitter to bring balance down the order that they sorely missed during the WC, and have for some time.

They should be back on but its going to be difficult conditions for both. The game is still evenly poised in my opinion.

Does seem strange, It though Stokes was picked to give it a whack at number 7 but now he's playing a role perfectly suited to Taylor at number 5. Odd. Also resting KP is fine but surely when your next best ODI player gets injured he should come back in? Batting looks weak with Stokes/Bopara and 5/6.

You know Trebs, just when India had their 15 minutes in the sun, the damned rain came in to take out any momentum that the 2 Indian spinners were building with those wickets and quiet overs. Even after all that, England was ahead on DL, and even if the match restarts as it appears to be happening, then the conditions would be tough for Ashwin and Jadeja who looked like the only bowlers who could do the unlikely job for India.

Going by India's struggles this summer, even Jimmy A will his fancy his chances with the bat.
Seriously, England bats deep, and the lower order has got the fire power. The lesser runs there to be scored, the more effective they will become.

I think Sunday will be the last game in this series. Next two weeks look very wet in the West.

I think India can do this today. Either Swann was very poor or there is more turn now. India making him look stupid with the turn they get.
