England vs India - third ODI - Page 3 Empty England vs India - third ODI

Post by Mad for Chelsea Fri 09 Sep 2011, 12:47 pm

First topic message reminder :

So here we go again, England have won the toss and decided to bowl first, Cook feeling it isn't easy to defend a score here at the Oval. England make the one change, with Trott coming back into the side for Samit Patel, while India make two changes: Jadeja in for Tiwary to strengthen their bowling, and R.P. Singh for Vinay Kumar.

England team
AN Cook*, C Kieswetter†, IJL Trott, IR Bell, RS Bopara, BA Stokes, TT Bresnan, GP Swann, SCJ Broad, JM Anderson, JW Dernbach

India team
AM Rahane, PA Patel, R Dravid, V Kohli, SK Raina, MS Dhoni*†, RA Jadeja, R Ashwin, P Kumar, MM Patel, RP Singh

Surprised Aaron still not given a go...

So was Jimmy on fire earlier or was it poor batting from India?

Ravindra Jadeja is been unfairly targeted by a section of the Indian supporters for a couple of poor performances in the T-20i games. His inability to hit the long ball at the death also hurt his chances in the past. But since his axing from the side, he has worked on his fitness, and is a stronger player, physically and mentaly.
He was one of the bright spots for KTK in the IPL last season, with bat and ball.

Fascinating stuff: Swanny clearly has realised that Jadeja's uncomfortable off his legs, so he's bowling a much straighter line than he normally would, and it takes Jadeja four balls to get off strike. Canny bowler is Graeme Swann...

Looks a good pitch this now.

India wise to have that extra bowler.

Yerah true Chelsea, sort of surprising as it looks nice.

They are struggling to get the score bord going, and something will have to give way soon.
for god's sake, take the stupid powerplay while these 2 are around.

I still think this is in the balance... If Dhoni is there til the end we could still end up chasing 225+

Saying that Jade and Swanny are bowling very nicely

Decent recovery now - Dhoni and Jadeja have played sensibly.

But even if they hit out and plunder 50 odd off the last ten England will have a pretty easy target , given the pitch seems flat enough once the early life has gone. Kumar may nip it about early , but the rest of India's bowlers really don't present much threat.

2-0 I reckon...

Just one from Swanny's last over, and that's a pretty decent spell of 0-31 on a pitch which really didn't offer him much...

India by not taking th PP have allowed England to pretty much shuffle their bowlers as they wish in the last ten overs...

Anything over 200 will be a tricky target for England. This has been an oustanding 100 run partnerhip considering just how deep in trouble India were. Its good to see them fighting.

oh i think 225 after the powerplay looks quite likely but you'd have taken that at the start of this surely.

at the oval you'd take 280.

these two now have the highest 6th wicket partnership ever at the oval after india had their worst ever first ten.

they have quite possibly won the match for their team if Billy is right.

Nah, you have to remember that whatever the par score is, you can usually add a few to it with India's bowling anyway. And this is much better than a 200 pitch IMO. Fine over by Dernbach there, just three from it...

Why on earth should 200 - or 225 be a winning score here ?

Certainly there was some early life but since these two settled in there has been little enough help for the bowlers. I honestly can't see England having much trouble knocking off 220 or whatever.

Dhoni out ... 220 looks unlikely now...

Bresnan back, and Dhoni is gone first ball, hitting it straight up in the air and it's an easy catch for captain Cook at mid-off. Good knock by the Indian skipper, but both he and Jadeja have got badly bogged down in the last 10-15 overs or so...

Fighting 50 from Ravindra Jadeja. He may not have set the world on fire in this knock, but a valuable contribution nevertheless.
Now he'll have to bat through, as MSD finds the filder atempting a big one. Ravichandran Ashwin's the new man.

see as soon as they try to go for it they blow it. the steady approach that got the hundred was unexciting but it worked. had dhoni hit out earlier he'd have gone earlier.

hope eng watch and learn.

agreed alfie but Billy thinks 200 is a challenge here. Seems to me the early conditions have gone and it's flat but we might be proved wrong by Kumar.

there's nothing exciting about Bresnan's death bowling, but it's full, it's straight and it's very hard to get away. I feel him and Dernbach complement each other very nicely in the last few overs of an innings.

I think that anything above 200 will be tricky trebbs but not unchaseable looking at the conditions. Lets not forget that India are the best in the world at ODI's so they know how to close out and win tight ODI matches.

One would never have gone broke betting on England making a meal of ODI chases in recent years , but I would be astonished if they were to mess this up against such a modest Indian attack. Batting is looking fairly easy now.

the sky cameras spend a hell of a lot more time on the india than eng supporters in this series.. cutting to them going mental after every ball. they didn't seem to do that for engs fans when they were winning the other day sadly.

i do think our fans could learn a lot. they were very quiet early but going insane now.

i guess it's a lucrative area so they want to serve them well.

it was dire.. shows he is a rookie.

initiave with india now. Shooting past the Billy win mark of 200.

if at the start you'd say "chase 220", eng would have felt they'd done ok in the field.

england need a good shouting at over that awful pp.

they handed this game back to india. very very poor.

looks a good batting track but the billy score says 200 is beyond them so they really need to look at their pp bowling.
