England vs India - third ODI - Page 4 Empty England vs India - third ODI

Post by Mad for Chelsea Fri 09 Sep 2011, 12:47 pm

First topic message reminder :

So here we go again, England have won the toss and decided to bowl first, Cook feeling it isn't easy to defend a score here at the Oval. England make the one change, with Trott coming back into the side for Samit Patel, while India make two changes: Jadeja in for Tiwary to strengthen their bowling, and R.P. Singh for Vinay Kumar.

England team
AN Cook*, C Kieswetter†, IJL Trott, IR Bell, RS Bopara, BA Stokes, TT Bresnan, GP Swann, SCJ Broad, JM Anderson, JW Dernbach

India team
AM Rahane, PA Patel, R Dravid, V Kohli, SK Raina, MS Dhoni*†, RA Jadeja, R Ashwin, P Kumar, MM Patel, RP Singh

Surprised Aaron still not given a go...

Lost the plot here I'm afraid. Cook will need to get a better grip on these power play situations.
I still expect England to chase successfully but they'll be chasing about 20 runs more than they should.

Credit to India though , both playing well.

i'm shocked. all the good work from anderson thrown awy.

england made to look very very poor.

of course it could the pitch is a peach and india batted like morons and these two part timers have shown up their own top order.

we'll only know once both have batted.

the fans seem certain their team have won though.. they can't stop roaring again. must be the most confident fans in the world.

What with Jadeja taking an age between deliveries, Cook taking an age to set his field, and now the bat change, these last few overs have taken forever to bowl....

i'm thinking this pitch is a peach.

if eng start sensibly all the demons have gone and they need to just construct a steady innings. india simply don't have enough to make them need to panic. These lads are simply showing how easy it has got.

you know, i don't agree.

they just messed up utterly on a 300 pitch. this is never a 200 but recovered when it got really easy.

India couldn't defend 187 off 23 the other night.

Unless they have developed a "new plan" they'll find it hard to keep England under 4.8 per over or whatever

At least it will be a contest now

Jadeja caught at long on!

They're probably going to get about 20 runs more than we should have let them get to, but IMO it's still about 40 runs short on what looks to me to be a very good pitch to bat on (Kumar will be the only threat I think)

it's a good recover but lets be honest, should have been 240 after 40 not 230 after 50

and a big hit and hope pp, well that's pretty much all India are these days isn't it, sometimes it works often it doesn't.

fair enough Billy.

Eng have no KP and Moggy so you might be right.

They are up against the worlds best team after all.

you think 200 was too much. I think 234 was 40 too few, maybe even 60 with the attack India have (Kumar being it).

Chasing 235 then. About 30 short I reckon.

Although very well played Jadeja, Dhoni and Ashwin

Pitch looks good now tho. Messrs Craig, Belly and Stokes must be looking forward to this. Imo Stokes should come in at 3, let him have a good bat at international level.

Good comeback from Dernbach.

Well done India to get 234 - more than I expected.

Jadeja clap

Still fancy England to run down fairly comfortably , at least Stokes might get a hit today?

Leave you chaps to it ...

I base my assumption that India are favourites now on the fact that they are the best ODI team in the world and know how to win these types of matches.
I honestly believe that anything above 200 would be tricky for England.

Of course i am probably wrong but i just have this feeling today.

well you're probably right.

I'm just thinking they're missing the attack that made them good in the first place.

A lot depends on Kumar, if he fires Eng could struggle. If it is flat and Eng start smashing even him again?

shame we couldn't polish them for 150 but that's cricket.. those middle overs in and ODI often flatten out like that.

yep, you're right.

eng all out for 12.

Seriously a lot depends on Chef, CK, Trottsky and Bell.

If they can all contribute then you could steadily plod your way there. If they can't then there's pressure on the rest.

it takes time to get used to the idea of them being competitive and then, just as we are, they have a shocker to set us back again.

India's bowling is based on 2 men's output, Praveen Kumar and Ravichandran Ashwin. Munaf Patel is hit or miss, mostly the latter. Although Jadeja's presence does solve the 5th bowler issue to good effect, No idea what RP Singh is there for. even if PK and Ashwin get their act together, and Munaf and Ravi give them good support, by playing RP, India have already negated the presence of the extra bowler in Jadeja.
Anyways it never was a 230 pitch, Had Zaheer been around alongside PK and Ashwin, may be they could have gone in with more confidence, but I don't see them defending this with this bowling attack.
Hope I will be proved wrong at the end of the day. May be RP singh will do it with a 5fer or something.

Been at work, unable to follow the cricket and after hearing that India where 50-5, to my horror I discover they reached 230 odd.

I'm more than annoyed, we go on about wanting to win the 50 over world cup, yet we could finish off a side with 9 players missing???

One of the guys, Jadeja, has just got of the plane and racked up 78? What the hell is going on?

He does look a promissing player, one for the future. Not the finished product as yet, but has got plenty of pace, something not many bowlers in India have. Even in this stage of development, he should be better than some of the mostly unfit, slow medium trundelres we have.
Hopes he gets a game soon.
One disadvantage with him is that he plays for a 2nd division side in the Ranji trophy, although that side happens to be the Indian captain's Ranji team, Jharkhand

Seen this on TMS

"I'm glad England are getting some stick on here! They will never be number one until they become ruthless and learn to finish a team off. It seems we like to make a game of it when we have a team by the throat.""

what the hell are eng supposed to do?

they crush a team 4-0 inc an innings wins and they still get this sort of joker piping up with that!!

You can't dominate every time.

Well done ECB and the selectors!. Some of us reaelly didn't understand KP's resting before the series, but all that is being made clear by the Indian team!.

hope no more fights happen, going to have to bloody separate the fans soon.

Dhoni should use Ashwin better. He has shown in the past that he can bowl in the powerplays.
Giving him the ball after every RP, Dic and Harry have a go, force him to be defensive to start with, as he would be bowling to set batsmen.

It should still be fairly comfortable for England from here. No rush for Trott as long as Kieswetter is playing his shots.
