Most Hated Songs

Following on from Aberdeensteve's thread about your most favourite tunes, is there a song or maybe a list of them that just drive you mental when you hear them - a bit like someone scraping fingernails down a blackboard. Let's form a list of the songs we all should avoid for the sake of our sanity. You'll be doing the public a service. Here's some suggestions from me to kick things off:

Lady Gaga - Bad Romance
Rihanna - Any of her songs cause it's her nasal voice that is GBH to my ears.
Jessie J - Do It Like A Dude
James Blunt - You're Beautiful
Robbie Williams - Angels

Almost any Oasis
Anything from U2 after The Unforgettable Fire
Anything by Coldplay
Anything by a rapper that does that double-finger pointy-down thing (like an upside down devil's horns)

Oh yeah - Jedwood

Anything by Abba.
Anything from the Grease musical.
Anything by Rihanna (I really don't agree with that woman)

Anything Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Abba, Oasis, U2, Coldplay, Rap, Sporty, Adele, majority of 90s music, and so on.......

I have to strongly disagree about U2 Davie. They did three of their best albums after 1984.

Def Leppard are awesome...one of the best British bands of the last 30 years. Saw them at Download a couple of years ago and they were note-perfect.

Getting back on topic, as a general rule, I avoid any of the following:

- R&B
- Rap (though I do like Eminem and some rap-rock / metal)
- Country
- Disco
- Boy / Girl bands
- Metal bands with "Cookie Monster" singers

I also hate idiotic novelty songs, such as the Crazy Frog song.

Other than that, I'm open-minded (eared?) to most things.

I despise N-Dubz.

It isn't even all of N-Dubz, just Dappy really.

I hate most things musically if it doesn't involve a heavy riff or isn't done by a rock/metal type of band. Here is a list of the things I despise though;

*Boy/Girl band
*Any form of dance music
*N Dubz
*Any generic pop song sung by someone with no talent.
*RIHANNA!!!!!

Sorry, why hasn't anybody mentioned emo music? Honestly if I listened to that all day I'd self harm too.

Anything by Guns and Roses
Anything by the Doors (I can feel the hate, you don't like them either you sheep)
Anything by Greenday after their come back (refer to emo and sidenote of sellouts)

What would you define as 'emo' music?

MCR, Finch, Paramore, Avenged 7fold, bullet for my valentine all that lot. Oh and all those bands who use the label indie as individual instead of what it really means as independent. Oh and the pop emo lot like Metro Station. It all just makes me really angry. Even if the music isn't terrible the attitude stinks. I was a mini mosher for a bit, then I realised that it was just a phase and grew up. But some people took it to a new level. Eventually though everyone grows out of it so hopefully it will die out

I only asked the question because it is interesting to see what peoples definition of 'emo' music but you are spot on with the names mentioned even though I am partial to give Bullet a blast on the iPod.

I think everyone takes the music differently as the 'mosher' type of music is all I listen to and I don't really ever feel angry whilst listening to, I just enjoy what I am hearing. Each to their own I suppose ..

Pinkerton by Weezer could be seen as a forerunner for emo music, and it's an album I love personally -- I'd recommend it to anyone!

It makes it all the stranger then that I don't like any of the bands mentioned by TipToes....I especially have no patience for MCR or Paramore (except the lead singer). It seems so pretentious to me.

Anything by the Saturdays. God are they awful.

I like MCR, BFMV and A7X and haven't self harmed yet.

Most "emos" I've met have actually been okay - not the miserable, whiny, annoying stereotypes people think of.

Wish my lawn was emo though - 'cause then it'd cut itself.

Yeah, I still blast some of the the mosher stuff myself. And I know that emos arent all that bad, I went out with one for a while. But sadly I work in Edinburgh just up from their hang out and they seem to get more like the stereotype the more of them are. Its like they feed off each others pretend misery. And as far as the music goes, I just don't like the content. There needs more to an artist than saying I'm not okay in my veiw

I just thought of another one that goes through me - Bleeding Love by Leona Lewis. It's just irritating wailing of inane lyrics. I honestly don't know how anyone can enjoy listening to her voice. She's worse than Mariah.

I don't hate his version, but I don't know why any radio station would play 'You Can't Hurry Love' by Phil Collins over the Supremes' version.

I hate 'Empire State of Mind' by Alicia Keys. "Concrete jungle where dreams are made of?" What sort of English is that?! Is she that big a diva that no one dared to correct her?

Scouting For Girls really are Poopie. I can't believe anyone thought they'd be a good signing.

A song that I really dislike at the moment as well is the new one by Maroon 5 (don't like them anyway) and Christina Aguilera. Two voices that should NOT be put together.

I haven't heard that song but it sounds like a hellish combination!

In fairness, Scouting for Girls were a good signing. They sell plenty of records.

I certainly hate anything by The Beetles. Being the first of something doesn't make you the best of something.

I hate Rap and Soul. Just don't understand or want to the understand the concept.

I hate boybands, girlbands, posterboy bands.

Soul came from the old rhythm and blues, which is embryonic rock n roll. It was inevitable. Without rhythm and blues you wouldn't have modern pop music at all.

The whole they were the best band. They came at a time when that was all new. That hype put me off them right away.

Legend - Whether people like them or not (and thus think they're the "best") is irrelevant. Their influence on popular culture can't be denied wether you like the music or not. Plus there were other bands like them around at the time so they weren't the first as such, but they just didn't have the same effect on modern music.

So you were predisposed not to like their music because of the hype surrounding them? That's a shame but I can understand it.

I think they produced some of the best music there's been, but each to their own!

Cari, I can deny that by opinion. The are lots of bands and artists that state them as influences and many others that don't.

I don't like them or their music. That is my taste and my opinion.

Other people on this thread have noted their dislike for bands who to me are brilliant and influential.

In defence of the Beatles, they did write some good stuff (and some dross) and were one of the first bands (with the help of George Martin) to really experiment with studio technology. As such they did create a template for others to follow.

Hate almost all (c)rap, although oddly quite like Eminem circa 8 Mile. Oh, and as for modern 'R&B'

Has any musical genre term ever morphed quite so far as 'Rhythm and Blues'? Started off as blues based jazz, then used to describe the likes of Muddy Waters (heavy Blues), the Rolling Stones (Blues-based rock), before jumping to soul / disco and now the abject rubbish produced by Black Eye Peas etc.

Rhythm and Blues has come on leaps and bounds and has certainly evolved with change. White Stripes are the only modern day act that actually stick to it's 'Tradition'

It actually stands for Rhythm and Bass now (with the young 'uns anyway) - something I only learned the other day in a work conversation that had me fearing for society as a whole!

I said that I like 'proper R'n'B not the modern rubbish that uses the name now'.

Woman I work with (who is a copule of years older than me) says 'Yeah you're right nothing like a bit of old school R'n'B, Missy Elliot is brilliant.'

Not a trace of sarcasm and didn't realise why I was shaking my head in disbelief until it was explained to her!

'Nothing's Gonna Stop us Now' by Starship. It has the most complacent, self-satisfied guitar solo you'll ever hear.

Loveshack and Mustang Sally. I cannot bear them, so much so that I don't even have the inclination to try to explain why. They're just horrible songs.

I want my MTV by Dire Straits... very overplayed in it's time and annoying to listen to.
