Japan 2019 - Pool A Ireland Japan Russia Samoa Scotland
First topic message reminder :
Japan 30-10 Russia
Ireland 27-3 Scotland
Russia 9-34 Samoa
Japan 19-12 Ireland
Scotland 34-0 Samoa
Ireland 35-0 Russia
Japan 38-19 Samoa
Scotland 61-0 Russia
12 October 2019 Ireland v Samoa Fukuoka Hakatanomori Stadium, Fukuoka
13 October 2019 Japan v Scotland International Stadium Yokohama, Yokohama
Two games left. If Ireland get a TBP win on Saturday they qualify for the quarter finals irrespective of the result on Sunday. Any other result and they need to wait and see what happens between Japan and Scotland.
Any win for Japan and they will top the group (in fact a draw or losing with two bonus points will guarantee the same)
Most interesting scenario is if Ireland win without a bonus point - opening up a chance for Scotland to top the group if all 3 teams end up on 15pts and Scotland are able to keep their points difference ahead of Ireland.
Team | Played | Won | Drawn | Lost | Tries | PF | PA | +/- | BP | Points |
Japan | 3 | 3 | 0 | 0 | 9 | 87 | 41 | +46 | 2 | 14 |
Ireland | 3 | 2 | 0 | 1 | 11 | 74 | 22 | +52 | 3 | 11 |
Scotland | 3 | 2 | 0 | 1 | 13 | 98 | 27 | 71 | 2 | 10 |
Samoa | 3 | 1 | 0 | 2 | 7 | 53 | 81 | -28 | 1 | 5 |
Russia | 3 | 0 | 0 | 3 | 1 | 19 | 125 | -106 | 0 | 0 |

Hang on there is a guy called Wimpie van der Walt? That has to be the best name at the RWC or maybe the guy from Namibia who has an exclamation mark in his name, Prince ǃGaoseb.

Did you see Sbu N'kosi's try against Argentina that had Xhosa commentary? The commentary was absolutely fantastic, much better than our usual guff!

Japan look too frantic, Russia extremely naive. They could have been penalised at every breakdown pretty much. They look athletic but with little rugby nous.

Nigel’s call of “yews” seems to be very quick. I thought the player was allowed 5 seconds to clear the ball?

First game nerves, Russia’s biggest game ever. We can cut them all some slack.
Russian centres are tearing through the Japs Backline with ease...

This is a team ranked 10th vs the team ranked 20th. So far there is little between them which is a superb advert for the future of the game.

Japan not exactly playing like the 1/500 favourites they were pre-match! So many handling errors and poor kicking out of hand. Really warming to the Russians, they're giving this a proper go.

Russia are giving this there all, but we are still talking about a team that was thrashed by Italy and lost to Jersey. Japan are largely architects of their own woes right now, aided by some weird decisions from the ref.

Considering they are the lowest ranked nation in Japan they are playing a good game.

Re: Japan 2019 - Pool A Ireland Japan Russia Samoa Scotland
Japan making right hard work if this so far, but you expect they may well pull away later on
Nothing much for Ireland or Scotland to be worried about so far. Japan clearly got the nerves though and are likely to improve with some game time.
Samoa unlikely to be to scared about either of these teams on this showing either

In the same vein England thrashed Ireland by more than they thrashed Italy, you wouldn’t conclude from that that Italy are a superior team to Ireland. There have been far too many variables in warm ups to base how good teams are due to selections and where each team are as a squad when they play a match

Russia doing well with European tactics
Japan should have got a yellow for the tackle on the 9 (that was no attempt to wrap) that resulted in the 9 getting a HIA.
Japan are much better going forward but not dealing with the pressure at all. Until they settle their nerves Russia will stay with them.

Not really they are a big like you expect from eastern Europe.
They have two professional teams who have done alright in Europe except last year

They won't win any serious games making this many mistakes though.
I expect if you can slow then down sufficiently they will struggle as well

Anyone who has bothered to watch T2 rugby knows the Russians were going to be physical. They have good players who can play well enough. They don't have speed

Really, did you miss all the Olympic drug tests?
Strange comment to ping back to be honest, Russia don't do taking part, they have to win at all costs.

So you accuse all Russians of cheating, of taking performance enhancing drugs to win at all costs?
I’m not convinced they are still in the match because of drug taking, more like their higher turn over rate and Japanese mistakes...
From a libel point of view probably an opinion best kept to yourself.

I guess like a certain tennis player and long distance runner who only met with a doctor who gave out illegal stuff but not to them.
The Russians have been a top T2 team for 10 years get over yourself. Japan are beating themselves but Russia have shown over the last few years they are Simillar level to the rest off the B6Ns and all the other T2 countries around the world.
