I'm almost in the geographic centre, flipper... near Olympic Park. Traffic is hell just about everywhere now so you can never really avoid it.
There are many good places which are naturally in high demand however rent is very expensive.

Depends on what you like and what your budget is... where you'll be working, etc. If I were in your shoes, however, I'd try to get some place say within 10kms of the city... like the inner west; the east is too expensive; the north is nice but also expensive; the south is not my cup of tea. The greater west - forget it... potentially more violent, depressing and you pay more $ to go anywhere due to the distances involved.

I’ve only been in twice, my missus’s Uncle has a flat in there somewhere but I can’t remember where. It was Boxing Day and I was jetlagged as hell. All I know is that it’s a pretty standard apartment but it’s worth over a million dollars, so I’m not ever expecting to live in Sydney. The place we’re getting in Wollongong is expensive enough!

People are leaving here in droves and moving interstate... to SE Qld or Melbourne mostly. It's only slightly cheaper but some prefer a different type of lifestyle. I think the Gong is about the 5th most expensive place in Australia to live... I read about it on the weekend.

The cube room... sounds like something out of a spy novel. Do people walk through the scanner like at airports or do you have to come out of the cube to run a device over their person... checking for sandpaper or mints for example?

The latter. Im essentially in what looks like a mental hospital. All white walls and two doors to enter one place. The person steps through the door to my cube and gets scanned then goes into the hall. Then scanned on the way back out again. Dull.

Where to start... It has been pretty good.
Apart from the earnings some of them have even given me gifts... others leave things behind and just say "keep it".
Quite a lot of booze gets left over. I don't drink much but have taken it up just to clear some room in the fridge/cupboards.
Enough water bottles to last me a few months. I boil it for my coffee and tea.
