Looking forward to watching Racing V la Rochelle tonight to see if the Parisien team's resurgence over the last couple weeks continues against one of the T14's pace setters.

Watched the La Rochelle, Racing game which finished 23 all. Racing were behind 12-3 midway through the first half but clawed their way back in with a great Nakawara try,converted by Carter, who looked near his best throughout. Big Naka went off at half time having tweaked his shoulder reaching out for his try. The Racing lineout was also dodgy throughout losing 4 or 5 of their throws. Apart from that they looked on top form.

As the game went on their back row became more and more dominant. Racing were 23-16 down going into the last five minutes and had their replacement loose-head binned. But they kept attacking and after sustained carries into the La Rochelle 22 eventually Nyanga burrowed over for try near the posts. This was the first time La Rochelle have not won at home this season.

So in summary: Racing lineout was poor, everything else was good/ great. The majority of their key players: Carter, Machenaud, Chavancy, Dulin, Imhoff,Nyanga, Masoe, Lauret, Ben Arous and Nakawara played well.

Not sure if Chat is injured or just being rested, as he wasn't on the bench. Also the starting tight head, 23 stone, Ben Tameifuna wasn't on the bench. However, Ducalcon had a decent game in his place.

Next week looks like being a tough day at the office for Glasgow.

Leone got injured in the game, looked like whilst scoring his try and did not play the second half. You could see a shot of him on the touch line having it put into a sling.

Would it be awful of me to hope that he won't be fit for next week (or the week after!). They seem to have no shortage of monsters to replace him though.

That game last night was a cracking game and it is going to be some ask for Glasgow to get a result next weekend. Who knows though, maybe they will underestimate us.

Excessively Large Brian and Rory "I cannot believe I am a pro rugby player" Clegg added to the ERCC squad to replace Horne and Sarto.

Dewey Tjiuee Uanivi, Scott Cummings and Greg/Oscar/Jeff Peterson along with the greatest ever centre called Richie Vernon, Richie Vernon are all back in the new year.

Well....I am not looking forward to this. I may only be able to watch the first 20 minutes.

I count 11 foreigners in the Racing side vs 4 for Glasgow and, on wiki, they have no French locks in their entire squad. I think this sums up the difference in payroll and priorities.

Side note, apparently Ali Williams is signed for them. Not as a player but as a "special advisor" to Dan Carter.

RDW, you have to see the big picture: if anything happens to Dancer then Plan A is Hoggy to 10 and Selkirk Pixie to 15 with the fastest man in Scotland (ever) to wing. Plan B is Hogg to 13, Dunbar to 12, Johnson to 10 and Jones to 15. Unless of Course the Schlongy one goes to 13 and Dunbar and Johnson push inwards.

It's simple when you understand it.

Actually George, I am. I think Toonie has made the decision that since this is his last chance to make a mark in Europe with Glasgow then that is the club's number one priority.
League form has been patchy at best, woeful at times, but this team today look pretty close to our best XV.
Racing will look to launch their big forwards before releasing their backs. fair enough, Harley, Simone and Batman will tackle all day to defend the gain-line. That's all we can ask of them. They won't be embarrassed but if the Racing pack get the better of them then c'est la vie c'est la guerre. After the Oz game I had an interesting talk with a couple of Wallaby types who were very knowledgeable about their team and enlightening on ours. When they asked about Ickle Jonny I found myself saying that the only thing I could compare the esteem his teammates at Scotstoun hold him in was the way the Wallabies referred to John Eales as "Nobody". As in Nobody's Perfect. He is our captain and he is one of the best players in the world right now. Also, young Ragnar and Fraser Brown have just come out on top against the Pumas and Lelos: they won't be short on confidence.
Speaking of confidence; players like Dancer nd Hogg live for games like this.

You know earlier when I said that Toonie was prioritising Europe this season?
Well I have just read, the usually reliable and informative Disco on On Top Of The Moon, that Sam Johnson is starting his fifth successive European match at 12 .
Now, given the Tombola's propensity to surprise us that does look like a very deliberate, premditaetd decision. In Europe we want to avoid arm wrestles against big gnarly packs so put Dunbar out one and play a 12 who can operate as what our antipodean cousins would call a second five-eighth. This allows Dunbar to get the ball in wider channels and bring the back three in and, hopefully, run the opposition fat boys around a bit.

p.s. Dylan Hartley...What a muppet.

the selkirk pixie who I don't think missed a tackle all game and considering who he was up against thats great
Dancer who controlled well and only threw a couple of daft passes and made some good tackles
Dunbar who was immense

The way the season is panning out, our hands may be forced in this as the euros are when we can have been able to get our strongest team out and our squad does not seem quite as strong as in previous years.

I am hopeful though that our league form will improve. We won't lose quite so many players in the 6N as in the AIs and some of our walking wounded seem to be close to a return. If we can get ourselves on a bit of a run now then who knows what can happen.

We had not become a bad team overnight and this just shows it!

That was excellent! Watching Munster game now to see how that one panned out. Thought Racing looked poor after watching La Rochelle blow it against them yesterday (the match was from last week). They really have not put it together even with all their stars.

Glasgow worked hard as a team on defence and the maul defence was exceptional (J Gray, the heart and soul of that)
- Jones I think messed up on Racing's first try to allow Roko to get the break by coming in so soon. Other than that he was excellent in making every tackle and offering himself
- Wilson, Favaro and Harley tackled themselves silly
- Everyone goes on about Furlong but Fagerson is way better in the loose. He held up in the scrum for 49 minutes before Racing swapped Naka for a (ex)steroid abusing South African
- Price and Russell were a class above Machenaud and Carter. Pyrgos will have a tough time getting his spot back
- Swinson and Reid have been maligned recently. Both worked hard and outplayed more celebrated players. Hope they can keep it up next week.

Trying to think to myself who was Racing's best player. Both wings were good. Centres were poor (I actually don't know who partnered Laulala). The pack anonymous bar maybe Claassens and the props after 50 minutes.

May I be the first to say that it will mean nothing if we don't back it up with a win on Friday.
If we win and Munster put the Tiggers out of the running it effectively means our match against Munster should decide the group.
Halfway through the group and we still have a realistic chance of winning. Could be worse. We could be Luvvies.

I agree. however he still had a couple of brain farts but fortunately they didn't cost too much.

I think he will always be that sort of player going from sublime to ridiculous and back again but yesterday his game management was good and that has been an area of weakness

I think you are a little harsh

All players make mistakes but you highlight his like a character flaw. He actually make no more that any other 10 at the moment but you seem to think it is a huge deal
