As far as I can tell, the ref is saying that CJ Stander had no chance of charging down the ball, so it becomes red rather than yellow.

Not sure how you can make that call. When you go up for a charge down, you have no idea where the kick might be going. If you wait to find out, you'll be too late going up.

If you go flying in and polax a player with a head high body check, you can't really complain if you get sent off. Some refs might give a yellow, but many a straight red. Stupid and unecessary from Stander.

Punished for legitimately charging down the ball? Disgraceful. The referee should be punished for such a pathetic and crucial decision that has ruined this game.

Ridiculous red, maybe a yellow due to the outcome but it is almost like the real time made it look worse! At least Stander can say he knocked someone out with his butt!!

Who said it didnt merit a look? It was hardly senseless as Lambie was kicking, it was fruitless theres a big difference

Of course it did. On second viewing it was a legitimate charge down (albeit clumsy). Very unfortunate accident that should have been a penalty.
