I used to but it's a franchise that's on the wane nowadays as other games have come along and surpassed them. This may have a bit of a push due to it containing the best CoD reworked in Modern Warfare.

Gotta say I agree with him. I used to love CoD but the last few titles have been dire. A reboot won't achieve anything at all.

That article is bang on, the fact that the reworking of Modern Warfare that's provided with the current game is the thing that's getting the buzz shows it's a franchise that's in nostalgia mode now.

The problem with the games is that they've focused more on the online/mulitplayer aspect of the games and the story modes have suffered.

They should go back to making proper first person shooter games with the mulitplayer as an added extra.

Single player games are making a huge return and I'm all for it.

Churning out these FPS multiplayer games is lazy.

There's a place for it. I'm not a fan of the annual franchises that basically release a DLC expansion annually and charge you full price for it though. Assassins Creed have the same issue. There's only so many times you can basically release the same game with a new map and a handful of new abilities. Needs to reinvent itself.

It went downhill after World at War (By far my favorite) I just want a game without DLC & hackers

Part of the appeal for me in the early versions of the game was the realism - using actual weapons, with normal abilities/perks/packages.

Including jet packs/exo-skeletons as part of the game just moves it further away from that and closer to Halo and has ruined it.

Battlefield 5 is rumored to be set in World War One if you're looking for a grittier setting.

I think there's just fatigue with the genre tbh. Happens to all things after a while.

I was interested purely because of the forst Modern warfare, thats until i found out it wasn't a free game for preordering (like alan wake with quantum break or fallout 3 with 4)

Sorry but I disagree with all this.
I loved Black ops 2. I played it non stop for almost 3 years. The maps, guns and streaks worked so well.

Since Black ops 3 came out last November I've not touched black ops 2.

The movement system is class, it's not as daft as advanced warfare with the exo suits. But with the double jump, wall running and slides it takes everything number 2 hadand made it better. I love the specialist abilities and guns. My only gripe is that the streaks are not as good as number 2.

Seems you're in the minority, YI Man. I played it and I think it's ridiculous.

You may disagree with the comments but it's pretty evident from the mass majority that most people feel it's a tired franchise nowadays.

Fair enough, but if it came to a choice of playing fifa,battlefield, something else or cod, ID pick cod every time

Difference for me is I can happily wait until FIFA is free on EA Access.

And ditto with Battlefield.

Interesting that in 6 months black ops 3 has almost caught up with total sales for modern warefare which was released 9 years ago.  Not quite a tired franchise, if anything I'd say those stats prove the opposite?

It's not to do with CoD vs Battlefield anyway. It's more about the FPS genre. They're all boring now.

Black ops 3 has only been out since November. U cant compare the total sales to that of a game that's been out for 5years.

It's not going to sell another 15 million copies, is it?

If the sales continue at the current rate, then it will hit 30m sales in a 5th of the time compared to black ops 1

Most of the 15m or so people that bought it have stopped playing it and are now, in hindsight, very disappointed with it. That much is evident on social media.

Also, do you really think that the sales numbers will increase steadily this long after the release? Most people who bought it no longer like it so any sales will be of second hand copies so they won't contribute to the above figures.

I'd be shocked if they sold another 500,000 copies.

There is always more bad comments than good comments no matter what the product is.
If you don't like something then hit Twitter etc and complain, but if u like something u not going to hit Twitter etc and say it's good.

Same principle as those trip advisor sites

What's good about zombies is that there are still Easter eggs not solved. In 6 months no one has found out the way to upgrade the wonder weapon on shadows of evil. I think it's things like that that keep players playing to solve stuff

I see your point, and those people may just have a lot more patience than me....

I like to just switch my brain off, and b1tch slap some zombies round after round.....it may be misguided nostalgia on my part....but i much prefer Zombies on BO1.

CoD is the fifa of the fps world in my eyes, copy and paste every year but they add something shiny to suck the teens in my 16 year old son being one of them

Non the less, I hope infinity ward do a good job this year. The game has been in development for 3 years, and these are the guys that made modern warfare which is a fans favourite.

The majority of reviews on trip advisor are positive (average is over 4/5), so that's that theory out of the water.

Not really, pretty much all of the creative force behind the first two Modern Warfare Games left to join ReSpawn entertainment. It's the same company in name only.

The official advanced warfare trailer has 222k likes and 50k dislikes, yet the majority of the community hates it because of the exo-suits. The internet is full of mis guided reaction.

What gets me about the infinate warfare trailer is that it had nothing to do with multiplayer, so how can people judge it?

Because the studios have been churning out the same rubbish for years on end now and people are rightly cynical about any new content.

A minority on this site, but given the YouTube views and likes of the pro players on YouTube I'm not in a minority of Cod fans.

The COD fan base is huge, just look at Ali A on YouTube. 8m subs and hundreds of thousands of video views.  All he uploads is cod vids, and he's just one guy.  There are loads of other youtubers with similar stats.  COD is massive, just not on 606v2 lool

Oh well aware it's massive, it's the biggest selling game every year.
But it's also past its sell by date and is dropping in sales each year due to churning out the same tired formula. At some point not too far away it'll stop being the numero uno cash cow.

Its very impressive to keep an annual franchise going this long to be fair (I don't really count sports games, buy the license and you can print money). Certainly in gaming terms its really only WoW that's managed to hold interest for a really long time.

The new Battlefield trailer looks good. Should be an interesting year, one going back in time, the other in the future.

I understand peoples view on cod, about wanting something different etc. But what can they do that's not been done before? There is only so much u can do without changing the core mechanics of the game. They tried that with advanced warfare and it flopped.
