Callum Smith v Rocky Fielding

Afternoon all,

Who's watching this at the weekend? Predictions anyone?

I actually think it's going to be a lot tighter fight than most are suggesting. I'm hoping for a fight of the year candidate.

Can't wait for this one! A good British title scrap between 2 talented young fighters. Much prefer this to alphabet world title fights.

I make Callum the slight favourite, although I've put £20 on Rocky to win as he looks good value at 3/1.

Should be a good spectacle, both guys come to fight and their styles should gel well.

It's very rare in the UK that this kind of fight comes around. Both have talent both undefeated and both from the same kind of area.

It's like having Khan fight Brook early on or Hatton fighting Witter only 15 fights in.

Obviously those said names have gone on or did go one to win world titles and become massive names on our sport.

Hopefully these both do the same.

A few major fight or interesting ones coming up now.

Quigg vs Frampton
Joshua vs Whyte
Cotto vs Canelo

Hopefully we get Brook vs Khan next.

Yeah really looking forward to this one, should be a good scrap.

I would make Callum the favourite but Fielding is a very live underdog.

Callum seems fundamentally better. I was pretty impressed with his performance against Rebrasse as I think that guy's toughness and persistence could find some people out. Callum's punch variation is very good and I predict that he'll hurt Fielding to the body at some point. I would expect a points win though.

Fielding must surely accept that he's the inferior technical boxer and is going to have to take Smith out of his comfort zone. Paul Smith has raved about how good Callum's in-fighting ability is for a guy of his size and I think that is the only place that Fielding has a chance. If he keeps it long then Callum's skills will be the difference. Fielding has to try and rough him up on the inside. I expect him to have some success with this but not nearly enough to win on points.

Smith UD / late stoppage for me.

Don't see Fielding having anything other than a punchers chance and that's a slim one......Can't conceivably see a scenario where Fielding wins this and in the run up he's hardly been inspiring his fans with confidence..Doesn't have the aura of a confident man !!.....Smith however seems to be exuding it.

I see a one sided beat down and unfortunately it won't be a quick one......

Fielding hasn't beaten anybody resembling a decent fighter and I think people will be disappointed.....Hope I'm wrong....

Smith doesn't need to take this fight and the fact he readily is doing so says a lot...

Having said that If I can get the red cabbage patch doll out of the lounge I will watch it.......

It is a better than usual domestic matchup..

Upset on the cards tomorrow. Smith too textbook whereas Rocky fights on instinct. Smith will loose.

Rooting for Fielding - not sure he can win bit its certainly winnable - dont see any big fuss about Smith.

Fancy Smith for this one, think he is a bit better schooled and has the edge in power. As Truss has alluded to Fielding has not mixed in the best of company, the experience of guys like Rebrasse will stand Smith in good stead, Suspect he'll stop him around 8, corner may even pull him out.

That's a worry......Two good prospects so let's pull Fielding out as soon as the going gets tough......leaving us all dry.....

After all plenty of alphabets for Fielding to look at down the line..

I think this is a live fight. Unfortunately, I'm at what will be a desperately dull dinner party (obviously, me being there is enough to ensure that)  otherwise I'd be looking forward to this one.

Smith rightly favourite and he could potentially win this wide but I'm expecting a competitive fight.

Sitting on the fence a bit on this one, Smith could and possibly should win this comfortably; better technician, bigger puncher and a fantastic body puncher but Fielding has a habit of surprising me.

Wonder how much crap we are gonna have to wade through before we hit the main event.
