There is very little to be said after reading,

It was a knight to remember at BT Murrayfield as Edinburgh Rugby launched its new chainmail-inspired home kit and camou-action away strip, with players and supporters lining up as catwalk kings and queens.

Knight to remember.... picard

chainmail inspired...... Doh

camo-action......... Laugh Laugh Laugh Laugh Laugh

supporters lining up as CATWALK KINGS AND QUEENS..... Well to be fair you have been doing that for a few years now.

Oh my eastern brothers, I honestly don't know whether to laugh at you or cry for the complete lack of shame that takes hold of clubs when the sponsors wave money at them.

Knights? WTF?? "I know Justin, they have that castle thingy in Edinsborough don't they? Who lives in a castle? Apart from pretetious old queens! Yes, knights. So they're the Edinsborough Knights." picard picard picard

Fecc knows what load of old twaddle they'll come out with for the Warriors tomorrow.

The earnest young marketing manager probably watched Edinburgh's back-line set moves down the 10-12 channel and was reminded of something from his Higher in philosophy:

Albert Camus wrote:Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower.

That's the problem with using a dictaphone to record your marketing ideas - 'Camus-action' and 'Camou-action' inevitably come out the same.

Can't sleep and I'm certainly going to have nightmares after seeing that. I don't want to be too down on it but it's fundamentally gayer than the poodle mascot to a San Francisco barber shop quartet during Comic Con.

You can't defend the indefensible RDW, the trailer had dry ice, moody lighting and the theme from Game Of Thrones ffs.

Ah you see you're jumping to the conclusion there that me noting the hypocrisy of one of Glasgow's favourite sons coming out with eloquent pros following on from one of 21st'a many, many, many witty and hilarious attempts to make a joke regarding the masculinity of Edinburgh fans by saying we all attend poetry readings is some way of me justifying the omnishambles that we saw last night, which was no doubt inspired by some Bruno Toniolli wannabe Macron marketing manager called Julio (with an h).

Now you see that is so inaccurate and based on falsehoods that it makes me think that you are trying to hide the hypocrisy by making such a claim against my good self!

So Hardie hasn't been snapped up by Edinburgh or Glasgow. Is this a mistake?

He said yesterday that's come over here without a club and doing it all himself, without any way back to the Highlands, so would imagine he's pretty keen to get settled. I can't understand why Edinburgh wouldn't snap him up?!

Glasgow currently have Favaro (broken though he currently may be), Fozzy, Sherlock, Blake, Bordill and Batman - all of whom can play 7.

It would be fairly unconscionable for Glasow to sign him when Edinburgh only have Watson (good), the Ginger Midget (bad) and people like Mike Coman (ugly) looking to spray his leadership around like a lycra-wrapped Kiwi Pez dispensor.

I quite like the home one, although maybe the girders just appeal to the civil engineer in me...

The skyline on the away one is a bit weird though.

Its still a lot better than the MFL effort tbh. See Russell and Hogg couldn't help taking the pish. Tennessee Tam looked distinctly uncomfortable.

Excellent - I like it when trialists grab their chance and Glasgow is clearly a happy home for our Fijian brothers.

His try against Clermont was a belter.

We need more wing cover too. Anything that stops the Selkirk Pixie being seen on the field again is a good thing and let's not pretend that the natural South Sea Island physicality comes very naturally to Scots players. Even those from Ayr.

de Klerk's a very naughty boy

Did anyone see this?

All sounds very strange. If he knew she was 14 then that's horrendous, if not and he genuinely thought she was older then all he did was say hello and give her a piece of paper. Either way I'm really sure how that constitutes disturbing the peace?!

Either way sounds like a bit of a weirdo, so probably for the best that he's leaving.

Yeah it was discussed on here when the details were first released a week or so ago.

His position had become untenable really - there was no way they could have kept him at the club.

Good signing for Glasgow. Looks like he could be a very good player for Glasgow, lots of pace and flair but looks like he doesn't mind the physical stuff either.
To score a try like he did on his debut shows he could be a special player.
His brother looks pretty handy as well down at Doncaster.

Cracking news. Can't wait to see how he goes and how Hugh Dan gets on with his pronunciation this season.

Its interesting how Matawalu, Nakarawa and to a lesser extent Yanuyanutawa's successes have generated such a feel good around Fijian signings at Glasgow, while Edinburgh's saffers have so far been greeted with a heck of a lot less enthusiasm

Schitz, old salt, I'll have you know that that shirt is a very lucky shirt, worn to every Glasgow home match (and during every away match) since that unfortunate business back in November 2013 when we lost at home. Remember that? I know, it seems like a distant memory. What's interesting is that it seems to be getting luckier with age - it's 'ripening', if you will.

I'm not going to say the shirt is the only reason why Glasgow won the league, but it probably played an equally important role to the Warriors' ability to run, pass, catch, tackle and offload, and of course to Mr Nakarawa, Laird of Tavua.

The shirt is the 16th man. Don't insult the shirt.

Please have my sincerest apologies Mr Bru for having the temerity to slate its hallowed nature. Citizens of the West End of Glasgow will have to warned when you are making the next trip North in case they think it is indeed a holy relic - like the Turin shroud. It obviously has similar connotations to all things Warrior.

London Scottish have just released their new shirt (thankfully nicer than Edinburgh or Glasgow's) and it has a large 'Scottish Rugby' logo on the arm. This is the first time and I've seen that and I wonder if it signals a closer link between the two (made all the more conspicuous by the lack of an English Rose on there).

Du Preez?! Bresler?! Nel?! I can assure any doubters that there is bags of enthusiasm for those big Biltong munchers  Wink

Agreed. Strauss isn't that popular because, well apart from nae pace whatsoever, we all know we'd rather see Matt Scott at 12 instead.

Big season for Chris Deans ahead? Hope so.

I would say that its only relatively recently that guys like Bresler and Nel have been lauded. They have become key components of an extremely solid pack, but their arrivals certainly weren't greeted with much excitement...

I wouldn't say that - their arrival was greeted with excitement because they had pedigree. That was tempered a bit though when they made slow starts to their time at Edinburgh - Bresler particularly, who looked pretty average for his first few games.

All it shows is that it takes these players a while to get up to speed - something worth remembering when Nasi Manu starts playing.

I dunno. I might be wrong but I seem to remember a lot of grumbling about saffer journeymen taking the place of young scots and club stalwarts. The only guy we'd heard of was Bresler. Nel, Du Preez, Strauss, Bez, van der Westhuizen and Blauww (I might have missed a few) were hardly heralded.

They, along with the likes of Coman, Beard and McLennan were seen as Solly's men, mid-range pro's with a smattering of super rugby experience, who would help provide a platform for the club to grow and for the likes of Gilco, SHC and Watson to learn from. I reckon the majority would have been drummed out had Solly gone, when Mouneimne went.

Things certainly changed last season and some of those guys have moved on, but my point is that the Fijians seem to have been taken to heart quicker than the saffers.

There certainly has been grumblings about a lot of Solomons' signings, but I do think there was general excitement about Bresler and Nel. Both were regular starters in Super Rugby teams and were being signed in positions of not great strength.

Blaauw, Bezzy, VDM, Strauss, Coman, Francis, Penn (who?), Beard, Lutui, Dominguez, Atiga, Leonardi. McLennan on the other hand didn't have much top level experience between them and certainly weren't heralded, and most of their signings were greeted with disapproval.

As I said though I think Bresler and Nel were well received.

2 out of 15 certainly isn't a very good strike rate though!

We've really signed some crap players over the past few years...

Edinburgh Rugby v Romania, Greenyards, Melrose, Friday 21 August, kick-off 6.30pm

15 Nick McLennan
14 Jamie Farndale
13 Chris Dean
12 Andries Strauss
11 Tom Brown
10 Phil Burleigh
9 Nathan Fowles

1 Grant Shiells
2 Neil Cochrane
3 John Andress
4 Anton Bresler
5 Fraser McKenzie
6 Jamie Ritchie
7 Roddy Grant (c)
8 Cornell Du Preez

Replacements
16 James Hilterbrand
17 George Turner
18 Jack Cosgrove / Allan Dell
19 Simon Berghan
20 Alex Toolis
21 Magnus Bradbury
22 Murdo McAndrew
23 Jade Te Rure
24 Sam Beard
25 James Johnstone
26 Otulea Katoa
27 Jack Cuthbert

Good to see Du Preez back (and actually in Edinburgh colours - rumours that he wasn't signed for this season)

Outside 12 the backs look very inexperienced but exciting to see what they can do.

Farndale and Hilterbrand. Neither are in the official team photo. Farndale to 7s and Hilterbrand on World Cup short term contract?

Just regarding the reception our SA signings have received. I was sure good old Straussy was received fairly positively - so I went for a look......

Thread link

My personal favourites:
"Looks to be a very good signing - he's got a lot of super rugby experience and looks to be a big physical player."

"Yep, that's a quality signing - well done Alan Solomons. ."

and my personal favourite:

"I think Strauss will do a similar job for us that Dunbar does for Glasgow"

Anyway, I won't name and shame - you can find who these quotes are attributed to if you want. This is in no way an "I told you so" though, I wasn't around on this forum then but remember being pretty chuffed with the signing myself!

Otulea Katoa, huh? 7 time capped Tongan? Interesting. I mean, he's no Fijian or anything. But he might be quite tasty.

Delighted also to see everyone's Favoutite Slow Player (Jack Cuthbert) and RDW's girlfriend (Jade Te Rure) are on the bench, just waiting to set the game alight like a strip of magnesium dropped into a barrel of napalm.

I feel I must defend Jade Te Rure. He is an asset to Edinburgh, and the most misunderstood player in Scotland, no make that the UK.

In our defence (since I'm responsible for one of those quotes), Biltong - a supposed expert in south African rugby, said this about him

Yeah, he is good, he captained the Kings this past Super XV when Puke Watson was unavailable for the most part of the season.

He is a good defender, strong ball carrier, quite a likeable guy as well.

It seems apparent now it was all a long-term Saffer attempt to generate support for Strauss playing 12, and hence bumping Scott around and limiting his impact in this very world cup, clever!

Early kick-off has scuppered my chances of going to this.

Is Kennedy still crocked for the start of the season then? I thought he was due to be ready by now.

I would also like to humbly note that I certainly predicted big things from Du Preez as soon as he was linked.  Whistle

Also, who is James Johnstone and is he any good?

Absolutely. Before he arrived, we understood that he was some good at rugby.

7s player - small and fast (got plenty of those).

I'm looking forward to hearing the justification for this! Very Happy

Good pack from Edinburgh, and delighted to see some younger players involved: Ritchie, Dean and Farndale.

He is one of the Scotland 7s players (along with Scott Riddell) being talked up to represent Team GB at Rio 2016, assuming we don't flood the team with 15s players. Apparently Simon Amor is a big fan.

Very good centre and quick enough to play wing. Powerful and got a good outside break on him. Was Scotland's best player at the commonwealth games last year.
Been unlucky not to breakthrough previously, could be a good signing for edinburgh.

Edinburgh'a first league game against Leinster will be played at Meggetland since murrafield is hosting the re-scheduled foo's gig.

Small pitch, small stadium - hopefully that suits us....
