Matchroom Card May 30 PPV? - Page 2 Empty Matchroom Card May 30 PPV?

Post by catchweight Wed 08 Apr 2015, 11:15 pm

First topic message reminder :

So far this looks to be easily the best Matchroom card in a while. Its been a while since I could give any matchroom card much better than a 1 star out of 5. However the May 30 bill looks good with Selby and Mitchell in proper fights. I see Ryder v Blackwell has also been added to go with fights for Cardle and Joshua featuring.

Its looking increasingly likely that Brook v Gavin will be added to the bill. Negotiations between Frampton and Quigg arent making any progress and Im fearful Hearn waving his chequebook around was just an empty stunt designed to shift the blame over to Frampton before they move on and add Quigg to May 30 bill. If this happens I seriously doubt the bill will be anything other than a ppv event.

Really, want to see this but got stung by clev vs Bellew so will not be buying

Need a super fight for Ppv and this doesn't have it. If we pay for this just hurts us in the long run

My question is what are sky actually giving us now lost the champions league and now we have to pay for British world title shots. Only reason I kept sky is boxing but it's looking more rubbish by the day

It won't bomb...........

Has two decent paper fights and the average fan won't know Gavin is crap (Halling and smith will be mentioning his amateur career ad nauseum).......

and It's the cost of a couple of bottles of wine.......

The only unresonable element is... Us suckers pay good money for our sky packages already..

I won't buy it...............Brook v Gavin sucks..............and Selby and Mitchell don't interest me to the extent of turfing the viper out of our lounge and paying a few bucks for them..

Brook v Khan...............Frampo v Quigg...................I'd pay £20 for those..

What you mean you've only got one lounge?

And there was us thinking you were a high flyer.

One lounge..Four bedrooms..Study.. .Garage......Conservatory............and that's it I'm afraid...

I'm not a high flyer Mate......Comfortable........Not in Strongy's league..

Sorry to disapppoint you...

Talking of Strongy, I think I've just had an idea how to make Quigg/Frampo Laugh

Too good to be true not to be ppv. Or should I say too better than average.

We dont pay extra for the decent snooker and darts cards. Seems the Hearns are not here for the boxing fans after all. I dont mind, its just business. Wish he would cut this vain ego trip hes on with the boxing community though. You dont give a toss about us stop pretending you do and get away from the camera

Backlash on Twitter is massive too; in fact I would go as far as to say they are getting more stick for this one than the Clev vs Bellew saga....

Last time out Hearn sat and explained the decision making after taking a few lumps and bumps from the 'twitter trolls' ...be interesting to see if he feels the need to release his reasoning this time around;

And just so all you who question our impartiality with regards to everything Matchroom...we at V2 gave our own negative views to the PPV and ensured Eddie was tweeted into each one.

It's a cracking card to be honest, but PPV it is not...none of the fighters are the best in their division let alone a Star in their own right...Gradovich is behind Lomachenko, Walters & Co in his division...Linares behind Crawford (by a very long way)...and whilst Brook is a World Champ..he isn't that well known yet and given he is facing a guy who failed at European Level...you can't call that a big fight.

With Sky announcing a £4 a month increase in Skysports package (thank you Premier League football)...to watch all the boxing over the course of May your looking at £72 quid..£20 Money vs Pac...£16 May 30th PPV...£26 Skysports subscription...£10 boxnation. That's a heck of a lot of money...and certainly more than most 'every day man/casual' in the street can afford..

Like I said on Twitter....we as fans shouldn't have to pay EXTRA for the 'Privilege' of watching 50/50 fights between top level fighters...it should be par for the course.

4 quid increase I got a letter that said 2.50

I'm getting rid of sky the end of the season then it's not worth 30 a month

It's good to see you don't hold grudges and have an impartial view Strongy Wink

I'm with you BF, sky sports is going once the year contract runs out. I'm not paying extra for the premier league when I hardly ever watch it. Don't see why they can't cut the sky sports channels down further and have a dedicated football channel instead.

Hopeful the fans shouting about it don't end up paying for the PPV because it's no good going mad and then handing your money over, Super Ed is a businessman and if your going to keep giving him your money he's going to keep doing it. (Even I don't need Strongy's help to figure that one out)

The backlash seems to be more with regards to two PPVs in one month which I agree is absurd. As a fan of Brook I'll be paying but can fully understand the negativity it's receiving, a card like this being more accessible can only be a good thing in the long run?

Fair enough HH if you're a fan and you want to watch, you'll have to pay.

The thing I can't cope with is people giving it the amateur promoter to justify it, 'three world title fights, what do you expect? Brook is a PPV fighter now (whatever that means)', what about the fighters wages?'.

I'm just a fan and a consumer who'd like to avoid the unreasonable price hike personally. Don't care about empathising with promoters and their concerns.

Going a bit amateur promoter myself for a second Dipper, I wonder if they would have been better served splitting the card in two with a fortnight gap.

May 30th

Mitchell vs Linares
Selby vs Gradovich
Joshua vs Johnson
Ryder vs Blackwell
Edwards vs TBA

Sheffield June 13th?

Brook vs Gavin
Cardle vs Evans
Reid vs TBA

Plus two extra domestic fights like Campbell against Buckland.

The card was always going to be too stacked to be anything other than PPV but two separate cards would mean double the tickets, double the advertising so therefore no need for PPV or is that a bit simplistic of me?

Those cards would be fine with me HH. I'd try and attend the first and wouldn't be bothered too much by the second. One of my worries is that the May 30th will sell out now Brook is on it and my lackadaisical mates won't end up getting tickets in time.

The current rumour on the Twittersphere is that Cleverly will be fighting on the May 30th card as well on his return to 175lbs.

Nothing to add to the debate beyond that I do enjoy the phrase I've had a titful. I may use that myself over the course of the day.
