Scotland's path to Euro 2016 - Page 2 Empty Scotland's path to Euro 2016

Post by monty junior Tue 14 Oct 2014, 9:41 am

First topic message reminder :

Big game tonight away to Poland, after their win against Germany we are at a disadvantage already. Beating them 1-0 in a friendly without Lewandowski is one thing but getting a good result after they beat the World champions and with two of their best players back is a totally different prospect.

I would be happy enough with a draw but if we lose we'll probably be looking at third at best even at this early stage, just hope Naisy gets his shooting boots on, his finishing has been abysmal in the first two games and Fletcher please just shoot as opposed to trying to act like Francesco Totti.

The friendly that meant nothing. It was horrid though.

But anyway I hope you scotch do it.

4 UK teams. .... Whisper it and it might happen.

Great draw in the end. Not pretty, but you did what was needed.

Well it is in our hands now. Next game away to Georgia will be key. If we win there I'd say we would be odds on to at least make the play-offs. Still a lot of nail-biting matches and nights to come but it sure beats the last campaign when four matches in and we were mathematically out and just playing to protect our ranking spot.

'Scots' is better.

'Scotch' is a whisky.

Thought it was a pretty poor performance, in the first game we bossed the midfield and played some nice stuff, since that game with England and beyond despite and results we have been pretty bad. This was a good result but Strachan's team decisions were bad, Forsyth to be given his full debut in a match like this over Robertson. The former had a woeful game too, Mulgrew at CB and the worst of all playing with no Anya. We need to be more positive against Poland because if we play like that again we'll lose.

Yes it was a poor performance (more so because in the first half we looked disjointed because of the team changes) but we merited the draw in the end. It was the first error in selection that was noticably wrong but unlike many managers too stubborn he recognised his mistake and rectified it. As for why Forsyth playing ahead of Robertson well there is no way on Earth you can play Hutton and Robertson in that side in a game we couldn't afford to lose. Both are way too attack-minded - I'd say you always need at least one holding full-back. For me Mulgrew did excellently at centre-back and dealt with the overly aerial Irish attacks well alongside Martin. Yes not starting with Anya was a mistake but he corrected that and have no fear we'll be more positive against Poland as a win in that match could very well go a massive way to sealing qualification.

Wonder what odds on a England-Wales-Scotland-Northern Ireland final four at Euro 2016? Whistle

Next up.

Scotland v Poland

ROI v Germany.

Cant see us getting anything against Germany, but who knows.

A polish win and we secure third spot.

Can see Scotland getting 6 points though, (should beat Gibraltar).

Although 4 points clear, very nervous about remaining 2 games.
