Post by Number-25 Thu 21 Aug 2014, 12:36 am

Here we are then lads... the 2014 East league thread is now up and running.

I'll try to do a better job of keeping it updated this year - last year was a busy year for me and it took its toll on my ability to pay as much attention to this as I would have liked. Mind you, I have 3 kids now so I'm not promising anything!

Just a wee reminder for anyone who checks in to this thread and who hasn't been keeping an eye on the old 2013 one, our draft will take place on Thursday 28th August at 8.30pm.

Best of luck to all for the season ahead... especially to me!!

Can anyone break wadey's stranglehold on the league and stop him making it 3 in a row???

I'll be honest Bull, and I'm embarrassed to admit it, but you'll need to explain it to me. I was thinking you were maybe having a poke at the traditional style of name where teams are named after birds or cats and stuff? Couldn't work out the Greendale bit though.

Have actually just noticed that I didn't include your name change in the relevant section above. Will sort that tonight.

Like TM, I'm old too.... I've just had to google "Community" Laugh!!

The thing I'm most looking forward to in this fantasy season is seeing who drafts Brandon Marshall and then watching the fallout from it if it's not Bull.

Bull - Just to stir things up a bit.... you might want to give NYJ a shout - he's picking at 7 but said he'd prefer 10 to 12. You might wanna offer to swap to give you a better chance of getting Marshall...

Well last year I went with a Breaking Bad theme which didn't work out too well so I'm hoping Community works out better this time round. No need to worry about being old Smile The show isn't that popular, has a cult following sort of thing.

I really do hope no one picks Marshall or you will make me cry Sad xD

Duly noted skins. Duly noted.

You're either having a pop at those who don't rate our new HC, or you're genuinely not too enamoured about his appointment yourself?

I've also decided to go with a name change for this year. Mine is a homage to legendary Redskins HC, Jim Zorn, who famously got the team colours wrong in his introductory press conference... "... my family is excited to start wearing the Maroon and Black..."  picard

I'll swap spots with you in the draft if you give me a 5th Round pick. 5th Rounder to secure Marshall is peanuts. He's going to lead the league in receiving this year!

Note: That's if we're even allowed to trade draft picks.

You get my number 7 slot (so picks 7, 22, 35 etc.) instead of your 12 slot (picks 12, 17, 40 etc.). And you lose your 5th Round pick to me.

Brandon Marshall will be available at #7.

You can certainly swap picks, that's allowed. What I can't see a facility for doing is making a trade that results in you getting an extra pick and Bull losing a pick.

What you can do though, is swap individual picks around, so you could, for example, say to Bull that if he wants to switch 1st round picks, i.e. he picks 7th and you pick 12th, then you want to switch your second round order around too so that you pick 3rd in the second round he picks 8th but that you also want to switch what would become his 2nd rounder with your 4th round pick.

Essentially, you'd be giving up a 4th round pick and moving back 5 spots in the first round to gain a higher pick in the 2nd round as well as an extra 2nd round pick.

Just giving that as an example.... not suggesting that's a trade that necessarily makes sense for the parties involved.... but it would certainly test Bull's desire to make sure he gets Marshall and would give you 3 picks in the top 22.

Any trades need to be made before the draft starts... can't do them during it.... not that there would be time anyway! I have trouble just getting my pick in within the 90 seconds! Would make it a real gamble for Bull though - he could be left high and dry if someone takes Marshall in the top 6! Surely no-one would have the heart to do that though??

I might be 10/15 minutes late, not sure what time I'll get home from work. But it doesn't really matter for my first pick as I'll choose that tonight. Hopefully I'll be back before the next picks at the end of the 2nd.

You can swap individual picks around but you couldn't trade 1 pick to get multiple other picks. You could for example swap places in the first round with someone and then give them say your 5th and 6th round picks for their 2nd and 3rd picks. Not that I'm advocating that as a trade that makes sense for anyone but it's just an example of what you can do.

I love getting to see how these drafts progress as all human drafts proceed so differently to your average draft board

Very happy with what the computer chose for me, with the possible exception of Doug Martin, but not bad in the 3rd. All Day and Brady on the same team, pleased with that. Best of luck for the season lads.

Arghhh can't believe I missed the draft! Was stuck at work and just couldn't get away, just got in now. Normally finish at 6, gutted.

Happy to have Rodgers and Forte but after that it's not too good at all. Not happy with WR's.

Oh well looking forward to the season now, good luck all

No thanks, Forte is the only decent RB I've got, they're even worse than the WR's!

Your team is pretty good Bull. This is a 14 team league so in everyone's team there will be something you can point at and say it's a weakness. For you, I'd say your a bit thin at RB and TE. I also wouldn't carry 3 QBs if I were you - I'd be looking over the next week or two to see what sleeper RBs and WRs are still out there. With Manning, Marshall and a White though, you'll definitely win games. Spiller and Jackson should contribute too - maybe not as much as they have in the past bit they'll still get you points. Cardinals D could be a very good pick too and Edelman should do well this season - not as good as last season but he'll have some good weeks.

All in all, I'll give you a B.

Yeah, your RBs don't make for good reading wadey do they? Your WRs could be OK but a lot needs to come together for them. Patterson could be very good or very bad. Pitta should be good at TE.

Real shame you missed it wadey but you're still the two time defending champion so no-one will be writing you off! All in all, I'm giving your draft a C-.

I've not checked every team out yet Barney but yours will be amongst the best I'm sure. Brady dropped off last year but he'll still be a solid fantasy performer. Don't need to say anything about Peterson. If Martin has recovered from his injury then he could be great value - Tampa will likely be looking to run the ball a lot this year I imagine. Antonio Brown will be solid as will Jordan Reed who is poised for a very good season provided RG3 comes up to scratch. Chris Johnson is a real wildcard. Benjamin and Evans are fascinating options - especially Benjamin cos he's hardly got a lot of competition for catches in a dreadful Carolina receiving corps.

All in Barney, I'm going B+ here.

Could be better, could be worse Lowland. You could have a pair of outstanding RBs if Foster stays healthy. Foles is interesting - could be great in that Philly offense but will he really be as good as he showed last year? Keenan Allen should be very good and Crabtree might be ok-ish.

I'm going for a C+ here.... primarily for the Charles/Foster combo and giving Foles the benefit of the doubt. Oh and I like Keenan Allen.

I've got 3 pretty decent receivers ( Thomas, Bryant and Garcon) so willing to trade for a RB.

It was a little of both, but more at the naysayers. I reckon he'll do OK, it's just a matter of whether he can get the best out of RGIII and light a fire under the defense. I do not sit in judgement yet, especially after 0 regular season games.

Now onto the draft. Oh, you mean we had it yesterday? OK how did my auto draft do? Erm
