Sega Megadrive Games Empty Sega Megadrive Games

Post by Steffan Tue 12 Aug 2014, 11:22 pm

I fancied a bit of retro gaming so bought a Megadrive last week. That and the fact that either I am showing my age or I don’t have a lot of time to play games as I used to and I just cannot get into a lot of modern stuff nowadays and find so many highly rated games way too over complicated and overwhelming to get into. I have never been big into online gaming either. This being said I do love my Vita but fancied something I could play on the TV

So anyway back to what I was saying... I got a Megadrive and am loving the switch on and play element. Already completed ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ and ‘Golden Axe’. Currently ploughing my way through ‘Streets of Rage’. I have ‘NHL 94’ on the way as well as ‘Madden 94’ and ‘Mortal Kombat 2’
I am thinking ‘Golden Axe 2’ and ‘Streets of Rage 2’ next.

Anyone got any other recommendations or games they used to love playing

By the way I was advised to buy the official Megadrive 2 scart plug for best picture quality to a HDTV and fair do it looks amazing

Retro gaming is the way forward folks  Smile

Regards

Steffan

Do you know I used to have this and it wouldn't suprise me if it was in my parents attic

Was kinda like a FPS shooter wasn't it. May purchase if it's not at the parents

Toejam and Earl Steffan, the 1st one thought not the 2nd.

Simple as hell but fun as f___ especially if you've got someone else to play it with.

If you want a footy game, get sensible soccer.

Note: If you can find it, look up retro gamers top 100 megadrive games, that should give you some decent ideas too.

The first EA Hockey was brilliant.

Flashback was pretty good as well.

Oh - nearly forgot - Road Rash and Road Rash 2 are essential.

Road Rash 1/2 (2nd is better and Viper is a tool...)

The original Mortal Kombat was quality

And a pinball game the name of which escapes me took up an awful lot of my time

Used to love John Madden. At school we used to try get to the superbowl and one sunday we got to the final. we used to play a 1/4 each or something like that. Anyway, the best player was playing the last stint and through a hail mary pass in the last few minutes which the player court. Unfortunately the excitement induced one of his reasonably regular epileptic fits. Couldn't get the bloody controller off him and we lost.

Did you just cover him in paint, teabag him and point and laugh...

He was about 4 years older and a nutter but it didn't stop us flicking the lights on and off to try and make him have one.

He's on fire!

He put the biscuit in the basket!

The nail in the coffin!

I use all three on a near-daily basis, even now.

I will probably add Altered Beast to the list. Was definitely gonna get Desert Strike but I have never played Jungle Strike and a lot of people say that the sequel is superior. Anyone can agree or disagree with this?

there was a good mickey mouse game i used to play? maybe better when i was a kid though

others dont think have been said shinobi, lemmings, earthworm jim, echo (didnt enjoy this that much as a kid but if your replaying the classics its probably worth a go)

Comix Zone, Earthworm Jim, and General Chaos (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yS-NkT88KuE) ruled my life as a kid. Oh and Dynamite Heady too.

I have found re-make versions on the PS3 for most of my favourite megadrive games, but have never seen General Chaos since.

Super Hang On, I was dire at that as a kid, but then as a teen when I dug my megadrive out I started to get the hang of it, and was pretty good. The mode where you earnt sponsors etc was quite addictive.

Speedball 2 was one of my favs back in the day, Premier Manager I spent hours playing this game the wasted hours.

I even figured a cheat out for Brian Lara Cricket if you change you bowler stats to 201 and aim at the stumps, he will throw the ball out of the back of him hand you will get them out for about 0 all out with about 1.5 overs used, made it a bit easy to be honest. devil

You can basically download any console or games from the old days free of charge and play them. You don't need consoles, but I am aware the Mega Drive has been re-released with 80 odd games on it, though clearly it's a lot smaller now!
My favorite Mega Drive games are Streets of Rage and Centurion Defender of Rome. the Rome one is where you build an army and invade other European and Asian countries with your army and subdue them, make alliances, fight Barbarians. Before finally fighting Hanibal, then seducing or invading Cleopatra of Egypt, and finally invading Britain! Tough to win on hard mode, and the bloody Elephants are a nightmare against European Horses on the battle field. Desert Strike and Speed Ball 2 deserve honorable mentions also. Though back in the day I actually had a Super Nintendo not a Mega Drive.
