Army v Navy 2014

Saturday sees the return of the annual Army v Navy fixture, contesting the Babcock trophy.

I'll certainly be there, it's a great day out.

For the first time, the match is a sell out (80,000 tickets have been sold) - the largest ever crowd for an amateur fixture so I believe.

Here's hoping the Army thrash the fish-heads (again!)

As an ex crab the RAF haven't been the better side for long long longgggggggg time

Old story I know but I like the one about the girl who goes to the game with her Army officer boyfriend and retired Naval officer father - she asks the soldier why the Army wear red jerseys and is told "so the blood doesn't show", at which point the father interjects "same reason for us".....

We were when I played in the 90's

No. The largest attendance at Croke Park was in 1961 when 90,556 watched Down play Offaly in the All Ireland Football Final.   

Croke Park's capacity is capacity of 82,300 - it sells out regularly for GAA games.

The RAF aren't called Crabs anymore, they're 'Penguins'.

The misconception seems to be that the Army team is full of south sea island ringers.

There are a few i'll grant you, but they're certainly not the majority!

Besides, I remember a few years ago now when despite being 10 nil up at half time, the Navy were thrashed. On the train on the way home, the Fish heads were all moaning about 'Team Fiji'- I pointed out that they hadn't complained the year before when the Navy had beated what was essentially, the same Army team...

Navy? Navy has a Rugby team? Hmmmm.
Oh, the spoiled, cruise line types. Now I vaguely remember them. Used to be tough blokes back in the day - you know the days of Queen Elizabeth I, Queen Anne, and WW2. Now, pudding. Pudding can be eaten, thrown against the wall, but mostly they can be scored upon.

This is always one of the best events on the Rugby, or any sporting, calendar. Wish I was going this year. It is the best of what we are about.

Going to my 1st Army v Zavy game. Going with the missus and her army cadet friends, so should be good banter. But she wants to see the ladies game at 10h30 as well... could be a long day.

Was at this game a few years ago and lost the power of speech I was so ....erm..... tired and emotional. Great to meet up with old oppos though. Fiji will win it for the Pongos I have no doubt.
