Campbell to take break

Morning all,

Just read on the bbc website luke campbell is to take a break from boxing after his dad has been diagnosed with cancer. Sad news, hoping things go ok. Looking forward to his return when hopefully his dad gets the all clear.

He has youth on his side so can return if a bit rusty.

Being with family in times like this are more important hope all goes well.

Not sure at 26 he really has youth on his side, especially campaigning at the lower weights.

Still, better to take this sensible decision than to fight on worse prepared and risking serious injury. As ONETruss says, family is more important at times like this.

I'm hoping they're sympathetic though....

while i sympathize with campbell i wouldnt wait to long, he isnt very well known and there is a long list of Olympians who have been left by the way side.

i know its hard in his situation but other fighters experience similar things and carry on (see robert gurrero)

It will surely be a test of Campbell's character all this. Heart goes out to him and his family. Awful times for them but hopefully they find some sort of comfort from the treatment etc.

Hopefully Campbell becomes stronger and keeps his mind not only on helping his family, but looking after himself.
