2013 Fighter of the Year Empty 2013 Fighter of the Year

Post by All Time Great Sat 07 Dec 2013, 7:26 pm

Looks like the official candidates are in, alarmingly Adonis Stevenson was not included in the initial candidates.

Quite a difficult one to choose this year. Could argue Floyd deserves it for defeating maybe his "assumed" most difficult challenge to date by defeating Canelo Alvarez.

Out of that lot, definitely Bradley for me. Got up off the deck to win the fight of the year against Provodnikov (a win that looks better in light of Ruslan picking up a world title since) and then boxed superbly to outscore a top pound for pounder, albeit a pretty old one, in Marquez. Very impressed with his 2013 after the fallout of the Pacquiao fight.

Stephens fought 4 times this year against decent opposition and looked better and better. I think he would get my vote.

how does golovkin make the list for beating the likes of macklin and ishida, yet Stevenson cant get on after beating dawson and cloud?

Hopkins breaks the record for oldest champion by beating an undefeated fighter deserves a mention.

I would probably go Garcia, Bradley second

Garcia or Mayweather, beat their biggest rivals decisively and before that had a decent win over Judah and Guererro respectively.

Rigo just for his win over Donaire deserves a mention too.

Floyd Mayweather for me.............Proven he's without doubt the premier fighter in Boxing at the grand old age of 36..........Canelo was a highly regarded fighter and p4per.......Guerrero was number 8 in the p4p rankings.......

Wonderful performances against top notch opposition....

ENJOY HIM WHILE YOU CAN.........You won't see his like again.

Garcia has the biggest stand out win out of that lot so he takes it for me ahead of Bradley.

Think the catchweight harms Mayweather. I'd also argue that Lara trouncing Trout last night shows what level Canelo is possibly at, although that may be being harsh.

Voted for Garcia - his performance in the Matthyse fight was excellent - Just tight enough to win no point that he'd opened himself up to unnecessary fire. Intelligent attacking and excellent use of of distance and timing. I'm beginning to think that Garcia is a clever man and everyone around him is just for show.

Your agenda is perfectly clear Truss. Floyd could beat up a dying cat and you'd still vote him fighter of the year. No agenda against Floyd, you're just bing immature.

You're entitled to your opinion........

Just think Tyson struggling with Tilli s and Biggs slapped him silly.......Didn't mean a whole lot did it ??

If you don't like Floyd you'll mark down anybody he fights.........Fairplay.

Canelo got really lucky against Trout. He hit Trout as much as he hit Floyd, but in one he was seen as having hit the more penetrating punches, while in the other we were told he couldn't lay a hand....

Stevenson really should have walked this. 4-0, lost 0 rounds, 4 KOs, wins over three top five contenders... How didn't he get a look in? From the list, I think Garcia should get it. Golovkin was facing bunnies, most of which will be or have been shown up. Floyd beat Guerrero who got a fight because he beat Berto at 147... Berto has lost 3/4 now. Then he beat Canelo, I think that's a good-ish win, but not sure Canelo is even in the top 3 Light middleweights. Kovalev is really only getting a look in because he looks like a monster, no way does his resume match Superman's... Bradley may have actually lost his two fights (don't think he lost vs Marquez, but he got very lucky vs Prov)

Guerrero was barely a top 8 welter... Let alone p4p. He was given his elevated status because it makes money. Having boxings poster biy fight a bang average challenger isn't good for the sport. Plenty were suckered in so seems it worked to a degree.

Guerrero and Canelo were put in the top 10 p4p list to justify their fights with Floyd. It was a money spinning exercise pure and simple.

Let's see how much of their career is spent as Top 10 p4p.

Alverez is a hype job. The way Lara handled Trout showed that.

Canelo should have lost to Trout, he rode his luck with the judges. As a hyped up cash cow that can happen.

Alvarez deserved to beat Trout no two ways about that and I don't agree with using last nights fight as a stick to beat him with either.

Canelo got lucky against Trout. It was by no means a robbery, but it's funny how against Trout he was "landing scoring punches", and yet against Mayweather he was "barely landing", despite the fact that his success rate against both was nearly identical.

The difference being Trout was landing far less than Mayweather, it's not as if they were identical fights plus the knockdown helped.

No they weren't, and I'm not suggesting Mayweather did anything other than discombobulate Canelo. But wether or not Trout landed more than Floyd is irrelevant when discussing Canelo's offence in both fights.

It is very relevant, what works and is working depends on how much you are taking in return. Against Trout it worked, against Mayweather it did not.

Everybody becomes crap after Mayweather beats them..

Same arguments for Cotto, DelaHoya, Hatton......

Hatton was 50/50 on here.......

Guerrero was number 8 p4p .......As for not being big enough........Didn't harm Chavez against Rosario,,,,,,Leonard-Kalule.........Oscar, Manny or Floyd........

If you're good enough.......you're big enough......No doubt If Moore had beat Duran......He beat a lightweight.

Not a vintage year and the exclusion of Stevenson makes it a slightly underwhelming list. Would probably go for Bradley or Garcia with Bradley just edging it because Marquez is still a significant name to put in your record.
