The World Boxing Council have announced their award winners for 2011. WBC Heavyweight Champion Vitali Klitschko received the award for “Fighter of the Year”

Would not choose hopkins. And mayweather only had 1 victory in a year and that was controversial.

Also I think the public vote for the winner.

So Vitali beating Adamek is more impressive than beating Jean Pascal or Victor Ortiz?

Mmm, don't get that choice at all. Ward, Hopkins, Mayweather all way ahead.

The public felt so that is why they voted for him to win.

And the ortiz fight was controversial. Knocked the guy out when he hand his hands down apologising. probably why he never won the award.

Mayweather is clearly the wrong choice. How can you say that a fighter who had 1 fight in a year against ortiz and it ended controversially should be voted fighter of the year. Seems you are just saying mayweather due to his name and not what he actually did in 2011.

What he did in 2011 was still more impressive than what Vitali did in my opinion, I would have him around 8th at the highest for the WBCs champions.

So Ortiz had his hands down. That was Ortiz' fault. Vitali beat a guy who he outweighed by...two, three stone? The former #2 light heavyweight in the world.

I said he was more worthy than Vitali but do focus on one name.

I said who would you choose and you replied with a list of names which included mayweather. So you were not just comparing him to vitali you actually stated that you would choose mayweather.

I would choose Floyd over Vitali. Beating a bonafide world champon is far better than defending against a former light HW who had lost to Tobaris Cloud. I know which victory is more impressive.

Adamek lost to Dawson not TAVORIS Cloud.

Ward is unlucky not to have won. He'd certainly have been my choice.

Vitali has had a strong year though. Given his age and the fact he's held the WBC title for over 3 years with wins over two Top 5 contenders in 2011.

I'd certainly have him ahead of Martinez, Alvarez and Hopkins.

Mayweather hasnt done enough to get anyway near the top.

I agree that Adamek isn't the best fighter in the world but don't think you can use a fight that happened almost 5 years ago against him.

Hopkins for beating Pascal at the age of 46 has to rate higher than beating Adamek though as would Martinez beating Dzinziruk and Barker.

im surprised it didnt go to hopkins or ward, but vitali is the wbc heavyweight champion of the world so i guess that comes with a lot of respect

Is the award limited to WBC fighters/champions or is all comers?

Would have to wonder if Vitali won then why not Wlad? Wlads unification win over Haye would arguably trump Vitalis win over Adamek and kind of empty win over Solis which barely got off the ground.

don't try and change what you wrote. i asked who would you have chosen for fighter of the year and you said mayweather. just go to the first 5 comments.

I think Hopkins farcial and rather embarrassing fight with Dawson ruined his chances of claiming the award.

After a great 2010, Martinez took a step backwards last year. Dzinziruk was a little known LMW champ and and Barker hadnt fought beyond Euro level. With Macklin up next, the trend doesnt seem to be improving.

As well as five other fighters, why not also discuss them rather than concentrating on one name.

Why would the WBC give the award to Ward? Until he fought Froch, he never fought for the WBCs title.
