Team Fergie - Task 2

Good morning ladies and gentlemen. You are gathered here as 9 of the most talented young fake online football managers in this country. Over the coming weeks I will be laying on a series of football-related tasks, all of which are designed to test your football knowledge, historical understanding, and creativity.

Which brings me on to the second task. The 1980s were the glory days for me, I was born, grew up, and found football. My first memory of football is Michael Thomas's goal to win the league for Arsenal in 1989. However as much as it was significant in sporting terms, it had little to no impact outside of the game.

What I want you to do is tell me what you think is the most important moment in English football, not from a footballing perspective, but from a broader perspective - taking into account the social context and impact, financial, any longer-term sporting significance - basically anything that meant the moment had a wider significance other than just a footballing one. And I want you to tell me which moment was the most important.

The team with the best choice and explanation of why they chose that particular moment in English football will win, and from the losing team, one of you will be fired.

I'd have had start of the PL and Sky money top imo. Not sure how much the WC win actually changed things

Could also have Heysel for banning English teams from Europe. Twas when England got the message that its fans had to shape up.

Hillsborough is a moment, social, impact but not really financial impact & no long team sporting impact, its long term memory has no sporting context bar where is happened.

SAF getting hired no so much, Steve Bruce scoring the goal to "save" SAF the sack could a good one considering SAF went on to have a huge impact in the Premier League.

SAF/Man United 1999 CL Final, more so Sherringham & Solskjær last second winner. The goal didnt just win the CL, it won a historic treble. Put English football on top of the world.

Hillsborough had quite a big long term football impact, on policing at grounds, how fans watch the game

I think I'd put the Chelsea-Man Utd CL final above 1999. All English final, 3 English in the last 4.

Hillsborough better crowd checks nore safety when it comes to stadium itself.

I reckon Liverpool dominating Europe in 70, 80 put England on the map over 1999 or Busbys side did that

I think sky an opening of premier league has been biggest for me.

I would still put 1999. Winning a historic treble in the dying moments of a match means more than beating your premier league rivals on penalties.

We need to pick something with a big lasting memory.

Bruce saving SAF from the sack is one that sticks out for me simply because of what SAF went on to do, not only for Man United with the rise of a sleeping giant but for the Premier League & Football.
1. SAF's Man United honors list/trophy haul.
2. Hes been at the Premier League since its inception, including when Sky stepped in.
3. English football, the players he has produced though Man United who have made the England team, their countries national team, the amount of players littered in the PL, Championship etc
4. Managers, how many now manager have played under SAF, worked as part of his staff team, not just the PL but again the championship even leagues abroad have them.

I think his lasting effect is huge & its a positive.

You do remember it's azzy who'll be marking it and he hardly has good things to say about United. It seems arrogant that United are the sole responsibility of a memorable moment in Football.

I think with the introduction of premier league English teams benefitted or national team has improved we are able to attract big foreign names. Football has changed massively.

I agree with the SAF/Steve Bruce for sure.

But I think the Sky deal did more for the whole of English football in general. Could also say it had a hand in revolutionising the English game to make it attractive to the likes of Abramovitch/Mansour etc

Its also the reason for the high influx of foreign players, the reason why this Premiership Season opening day was the lowest count since the PL was founded for English players starting XI's leaving us behind La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue One for home nation players.

I think we should pick a good football moment. Sky was a temporary good moment, its not so good for the English game now but were stuck.

So if we come up with as many impacts as we can. Foreign influx is a good one

Could have the money establishing a clear hierarchy at the top

I'm not so sure that's true. I'd say it's created a bigger gap between the Top 6/7 clubs and the rest of the Prem. Unless you've got a wealthy backer like Citeh, you ain't really gonna get up into those CL spots.

You only gotta look at us, Swansea, Saints to see the gap to the FL isn't that great imo

I picked our moment on 28th August, I've said we're going with the inception of premier league.

Like I said a few days ago can everyone start to think of ideas how the premier league was a massive moment not only in football but everything then I'll take everyone's and merge it making it one.
