Ring Magazine p4p Empty Ring Magazine p4p

Post by BoxingFan88 Sat 11 May 2013, 6:12 pm

Has Anyone seen the latest ring magazine ratings?

Absolutely shocking...

1. Floyd Mayweather
2. Andre Ward
3. Juan Manuel Marquez
4. Wladimir Klitchsko
5. Abner Mares
6. Adrien Broner
7. Sergio Martinez
8. Manny Pacquiao
9. Tim Bradley
10. Saul Alvarez

I don't even know where to start with this, over to you.

Adrien Broner above Manny Pacquiao? Who the hell has he beat? Saul Alvarez makes the cut, but Froch or Donaire don't

Laughable.

I can see an argument either way.

Froch should be there before Canelo tho. This list is more based on marketability then reality imo.

I can't believe people actually place any kind of emphasis on these lists. They are nonsense and unfairly punish big fighters while the little men get a free pass.

Get ranked in your division by all means, but don't try telling me Floyd is the best fighter in the world. He isn't, Wlad would obliterate him.

This was the same list that had Mr Guerrero on it at number 8 right before he faced Mayweather...without Froch, Alvarez and the likes...funny that..

Now that he is out of the way and the talk is of Alvarez possibly next in line, he creeps into the P4P list.

As I said to Az and Truss in a couple of threads last week, and as already alluded to the list is done on marketability as much as anything else. This just proves it!

Id have:

Mayweather
Ward
JMM
Rigondeaux
Wlad
Donaire
Pacquiao
Bradley
Alvarez
Mares

Possibly controversial leaving Martinez out but I think his time at the top is coming to an end and I thought he was fortunate to beat Murray.

Why? Wlad in terms of pound for pound is excellent for me. He has an excellent size to power/speed/agility/athleticism ratio. Hes an exceptional athlete for a guy who is 6'6 and weights 250lb. He is also a smart fighter who uses the ring excellently and is able to adapt to protect his weaknesses and make the most o his strengths.

Heavyweights are routinely rated lower..mainly because of the opposition they face...........

Holmes was never higher than 4..........

I completely agree with LJ.No one watches 5'10 and under basketball. No one watches 150lbs & under NFL. Having weight divisions in boxing is of course understandable, but such p4p lists are useless

Such lists should be taken into context.....For the casual fan it gives them an insight into Boxing's best....

I always have Ali number 1 ATG in my lists for the simple fact he beats everybody else in history in a fight!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and his achievements and longevity are up there with the greatest fighters.

Wlad was left out of the Top 10 for long enough in the past, he deserves to be in there.

How many of the new fighters are promoted by Goldenboy? Might tell the story.

1. Floyd Mayweather.................Goldenboy
2. Andre Ward...........................Dan Goossen
3. Juan Manuel Marquez............Top Rank
4. Wladimir Klitchsko..................Universum
5. Abner Mares..........................Goldenboy
6. Adrien Broner.........................Goldenboy
7. Sergio Martinez......................Lou DiBella
8. Manny Pacquiao.....................Top Rank
9. Tim Bradley............................Top Rank
10. Saul Alvarez..........................Goldenboy

As Oscar owns the magazine its not surprising Alverez, Broner and Mares are placed too highly. Top Rank fighters like Donaire and Rigo don't get a sniff.

Oscar has corrupted The Ring ranking and soon the Ring belt will be as ridiculous as a diamond belt.

And what weight would that be? Heavyweight? Could Floyd still use the shoulder roll at heavy. What do we do with his speed? Too many variables.

Wlad would jab him to death therefore is better.

Alvarez at 10 after his win over Trout I think is fair. Broner is too high given who he has beat, but I wouldnt say hes miles off a top ten spot. Mares is probably good for a lower top ten spot.

Don't want to bite, but Manny beat Bradley- and everyone including the WBO and panel of experts agree. In addition, Bradley was shocking in his last fight.

It's a poor top 10 P4P list, as simple as that. How Donnaire (ring fighter of the year 2012) just completely disappears and Rigo doesn't appear is laughable.

Ring Magazine losses a lot of credibility here...

Bite?????????????

He's lost his last two fights.............Holmes beat Spinks in the rematch but for some reason getting the decision kept Spinks higher than Holmes!! Don't know why??

Precedent had Bramble leaving the p4p list after Rosario............

Precedent had both Curry and Hagler leaving after their defeats....

He's lost twice...

So you believe Bradley beat him? Or didn't you watch the fight?

He still makes my P4P list- not too concerned by the past just looking at the above current list. It's not representative of the current state of boxing. I guess the truth is, it isn't an independent body/ organisation anymore.

The loss to Bradley was very debatable so he gets a bit of leeway on that one. He was winning the Marquez fight before the scoopy snacks generated a superman strength punch the power of which we have never seen from JMM before. Agree though if Pac had not been top of the P4P list for so long he wouldn't be hanging in there now.

Marlon Starling should never have been anything but top 10..

Curry, Brown, Honey, Breland, Ayers, Bumphus..........

He's lost twice Manny but in fairness the lack of contenders as Manos points out does help him...

But he lost to Bradley never forget that...

A loss is a loss....If not Brodie should claim to be a retired wbc champ.

Thats ridiculous. If Mayweather and Wladimir Klitschko were the same size Klitschko wouldnt have a chance. Thats what pound for pound is for. Wladimir Klitschko is an ordinary boxer all he has going for him is his size. There are lots of better boxers than him. I dont even think hes the best heavyweight around now. If Haye was the same size as him he would have beaten him.
