Floyd Mayweather Jr. The trainer? Empty Floyd Mayweather Jr. The trainer?

Post by DoubleD22 Wed 24 Apr 2013, 2:13 pm

Have come across this story saying that once Mayweather Jr retires he is looking into becoming a trainer,

http://www.espn.co.uk/boxing/sport/story/203999.html

Interesting to see what you guys think about this, will he be able to train fighters to perform the way he does?

will constantly saying HARD WORK DEDICATION work on up and coming fighters?

Interesting prospect to see how he fairs with this once he has hung up his gloves.

I saw Floyd when I was at the cancelled Brook v Alexander Detorit card. He was acting as trainer then. Interesting to watch him. He motioned a lot during rounds, beckoning his guys in and had what can only be described as the look of a man who knew he could do better, haha.

Answer is no..........You can only learn the fundamentals off someone.......

Seeing a shot...avoiding a shot...timing.......heart.....dedication....and mental toughness are all down to the individual............

Why great fighters are great because it's a status that is so hard to attain..

It will get to frustrated watching one of his fighters get koed knowin in his head he wouldn't have, so I don't think he would be very good

This is my view as well Truss, he will only be able to teach so much.

Dont think that hew will be able to pass down the uncrackable blueprint that he has around himself at the moment.

He could still teach the art of when its essential to hold on, how to use the elbows etc.

Mayweather knows every trick in the book to win fights, that in itself could be very useful to the right person

Wlad Klitschko was lacking in it at one point. Now nobody can beat him.

Point is, it's highly unlikely that Wlad himself could teach another fighter that skill.

My view on this is looking historically how many great fighters have gone on to be great trainers, outside of Blackburn and Saddler you are really struggling to find names that fit the bill. Read somewhere the problem is great fighters really struggle to comprehend the idea that things they found easy are things less talented guys struggle to grasp, which you can understand.

Who knows, Floyd may buck the trend but if you were betting you would have to say the odds on him becoming a great trainer are against him.

Possibly he could find a fighter or two he just clicks with, a bit like the relationship he has with Roger Mayweather, but he doesnt strike me as a great people person or the kind of guy that would be able to develop mutliple fighters. His ego and demand to be the centre of attention would be problematic as well I would guess.
