WRU College League. . . No Cardiff Colleges
I didn't know where to put this thread, so I settled on the club section. I'm a big fan of the WRU college league. I think the WRU need to be doing more to promote school rugby in Wales particularly at a high school/comp/secondary (whatever you call it in your neck of the woods) level.
The WRU college league seems to be doing really well, now in it's third season it is clear that we have talent in our schools and this is another high level for players to compete in if they don't make the regional development squads, even though many who are in regional teams play in the College league. I do how ever find it strange that there are no Cardiff colleges or 6th form departments in this league. Off the top of my head I can remember St.David’s and Whichurch having strong 6th form team’s when I was in 6th form; as well as Plasmawr and Radyr. Does anyone know why these teams are not represented in the league, I’ve wrote before about Cardiff being missed as an area of talent where people are being forgotten to football and adolescence. But this lack of representation does seem to be a very strange omission. If anyone has any insight in to why this is I’d be very interested to know why.

I think i played in the last season of the old schools set up, whitchurch were in the top division and played against NPT College, Llandovery College, Glantaf, Coleg Sir Gar and a few others. St Davids college were supposed to be involved but they never raised a side and were then kicked out.
Think it was done to make sure there is a level of fairness, when we played we were clearly the underdogs along with Glantaf because we were a 6th form attached to a school, not a specialist college which could recruit players (James Hook @ NPT/Alun Wyn Jones @ Llandovery for instance). Still, had some great matches turning over Llandovery, NPT, Brynteg...never did beat Glantaf though

You'd hope with Cardiff and Vale College starting up that they'd target having a team in the next few years. We really do need some sort of representation, at least i think so as i'm bias.

Aren't Coleg Morgannwg Cardiff based? I also found the following via Cardiff Blues. Sir Gar appear to be playing twice on the same day...
11.45am-Dewar Shield Final: Pontypridd v Rhondda
1.30pm-Schools final
Ysgol Glantaf v Coleg Sir Gar
3.15pm-Colleges final
Coleg Sir Gar v Coleg Morgannwg

Coleg Morgannwg is just outside of Ponty, or at least it used to be, the old campus has just been knocked down. I think it's in Nantgarw now. They are two different age group finals, the Schools Final will be for players in Year 10-11 and the Colleges final is the final of the WRU college league which is for Six Form students.
Coleg Sir Gar have a fantastic rugby set up. Their 7's team made the Semi of the Roslyn Park 7's this year in the Open division which is the most prestigious shcools 7's cup in the UK.
